Leonards: Linen, Cake and Lighting

LINENS

In just about every advertisement for Leonard’s their linens and chair covers are ivory. I was hoping to just dress up the table to match my theme for the wedding. After my prep appointment, I learned they no longer carry the ivory linens or chair covers. They also have champagne linens that would have worked for me, however the chair covers are now gold with stripes no matter which one of their six linen choices you choose. Here comes a new unexpected expense for me.

CAKE

On a good note I love the fact that they are giving me a decent cake (four-tiered fondant). My sister reception venue (Cresthollow Country Club) includes an outdated 1920’s cake. To upgrade the minimum is $1,000, which is terrible. At Leonard’s of Great Neck you are pretty much allowed to get whatever design you want if it is not ridiculously complicated. Just provide them with the picture and they give it to their baker which is located in Hicksville. If you want to add trimmings (in my case the rhinestone band, ribbon and a cake topper), I just have to drop it off to them. I can also choose different flavors for the different layers ? Red velvet or carrot are extra, but you can choose a basic flavor and they have at least 20 options for fillings including fresh fruit.

LIGHTING

We have the penhouse level locked off for our wedding and when we originally saw both rooms there was no lighting. They recently completed their lighting upgrade on the top floor and we nearly did not recognize the room. It is absolutely AMAZING. Lighting makes such a difference and Im glad I don’t have to pay the DJ company anymore than I already am for this feature. You can choose whatever color you would like and they make it happen!

I'm getting married at Leonard's too, well next year. When I went to see the rooms, they were in the process of putting the LED uplighting in. In the beginning I told FH that it was an added expense to have uplighting and it wasn't worth it. When our BM showed us the room with and without it, it made a huge difference. Best part is, we don't have to pay extra for it. They are also adding a huge onyx bar in each room, which they should be done by this December. No more rolling bars. The one little thing I'm not sure about it the linen. They have a few colors to choose from but they don't have the ivory. I guess gold will have to do, just not crazy about the floral design for the table covers and strips for the chairs. Have you decided what you will do with that? Will people actually notice?

I was left with no choice but to go with their tablecloth and linens. I chose the cream one which is really a champagne color. I had no idea that chair covers and sashes were so expensive to rent. That would have been another $2,000 added and we have already doubled our budget. If they keep the lights dimmed, it shouldnt be too bad. Good thing the linens and chair covers go with my color scheme.

I was told how one bride assumed that the chair covers were ivory. She had a black and silver theme going. When they opened the doors for her to see the room the night of the wedding she had the shock of her life when she saw the gold chair covers!

They changed all their linens in May. I got married in April at Leonards and used the white linens they had available. Now they have champagne and gold color linens.

My cake was absolutely beautiful but just a warning it tasted terrible! This has been a issue with everyone I knew that had an event at Leonards. Luckily I do not eat sweets nor does our family.
