Lessing's caterers?

Original post by CherInLove

Hi everyone! I'm just curious if anyone has used or tasted food catered by Lessing's... I'm looking into one of their locations but I want some feedback on the food first because I don't know anyone personally that has used them....
Thank you!!

Also, you have to remember that you aren't only paying for the food...

exactly..but I just think that the prices are so drastically (SP?) different for the basic menu. I know that you will pay a lot more for the mansion...but they could offer a few more appetizers without jacking up the price.

I opted for the grand cocktail reception, you get a lot for the base price, IMO

Well, you're not paying just for the mansion, you are also paying for the fact that when the food is served, it is like a work of art. Anyone who's seen the food at the Bourne will tell you that a lot of detail is paid to presentation. It's like going to a fancy restaurant that pays attention to those details. You're also paying for the grounds for the entire day and you're the only one there, no other brides. So the price isn't just for the food. (I just wanted to add my two cents just so people know what you get at the Bourne.) I will agree though, that the Bourne now offers less with their packages than when I booked. I have a lot more food for a lower price because I booked in 03 for an 05 wedding.

I'm having mine at TimberPoint. I had tastings and the food was great. There are a wide variety of main courses to choose at each location. I just liked some of their locations more than others. They are all very different.

Oh, and TimberPoint only has one wedding at a time, which was important to me.

And to add some more of my two cents (which seems to be turning into 10 cents at this point ).....
You can't judge all of the location on the fact that they all have the same food because unless it's prepared by the same person, it's really not the same. There were some lessing's locations that I've been to weddings at that I did not like the food at all, but when I tasted the food at the Bourne, I was blown away. I also feel like they have been around a long time and have a good reputation, so I felt secure with them. When it boils down to it, you really need to go and taste the food yourself and make a first hand decision because everyone experiences things differently, and relying on someone else just isn't reliable

Yes I agree with paying for the ggrounds and the mansion itself...the prices prob were better when you booked in 03 for 05. Honestly, I would have had my wedding there, but when you add on the site fee, it was just too much...we are paying for most of it ourselves.

I agree, it's a lot of money, and the prices have shot up since we booked. In fact, the month after we booked they went up. The site fee was also half of what it is now

Re: Lessing's caterers?

oh oh! I have two cents too!! haha!
I'm getting married at Timber Point CC and have been to the showcase - loved what I had so far but want to also do a tasting to get a better idea of the entrees for when I do my menu. I know of people who have gotten married at both places and both raved about the food. I love hearing feedback about both because the more good feedback, the more confident you feel. They use the same matroi d's (hate that word, SP!!)for both places (not sure about the others, just know about bourne and timber), same food, etc... and I was told that they are prepared by the same people. Whatever the case may be, I've heard great about both. Lessing's has a great rep for food and so the food they serve will all have the same flavor and feel to it. I've seen both presentations (from pictures I was shown) and it looks to be the same. I think when you're talking about the same caterer's but a different venue, a lot of price differences are based on site fees, locations, space, capacity, etc....maybe also about extras, etc.... Either way, I don't think you can lose with either one in my opinion.

p.s. Lovin' Oven does this too - same caterer, different venues - Flowerfield and Land's end have the same food, both awesome.

We booked Smithtown Landing and we really enjoyed the food that we tasted at their bridal expo.

OK, when I booked in 03, i advised Ben that we were not happy with the menu and how little they served. We were not booking at that time b/c of it. He advised me that I would get the new menu for my wedding in 04, when it came out. Which now offers so much more food. So I think that you should speak to Ben about that.
