FOr FMIL's birthday in January - me, FH, FBIL and his wife were all going to get FMIL a puppy since she will be an empty nester and we will also be taking Brutus out of the house after the wedding.
Well, FBIL's wife went out TODAY and bought her a puppy bc FMIL just had surgery YESTERDAY so she will be home for a few weeks.
#1 it was supposed to be from all of us, well FH and I are stuck at work so while we are paying for half its not really from all of us now is it?
#2 how do you expect a woman who just had surgery to take care of and train a puppy!
i am just so annoyed - i feel like they were sneaky
i am being a brat - i know. i will get over it in a minute.
I am the baby of MY family so i am so used to being the favorite LOL in FH's family FBIL is the oldest but he always manages to steal the spotlight! ALWAYS!!!!!!!

I don' t think that you are being a brat AT ALL!!! I think that she is wrong and should tell FMIL that you all were going to buy her one but she just couldn't wait.....I'd make her out to be the bad one just to show her that isn't right!

you're not being a brat! that was a very underhanded thing to do... if it's supposed to be from all 4 of you, she shouldn't have been getting the puppy without consulting you guys first! especially since it was supposed to help ease your FMIL into empty nest syndrome.... very rude of her!
and yeah, that's a very genius thing to do - getting a puppy for a woman who just had surgery! what a dumba$$!! how is she supposed to take care of it right now?

u have every right to be upset. she probably did it thinking it would make her look like shes was the only one who cares, but if she actually thought it through shed realize shes giving your FMIL more stress...unless she plans on going over there every day to take care of it!

thanks girls! you all made me feel so much better. I actually went over there today and she looks SO tired but she can't lay down bc the dog is running around and he is only like 3 lbs so he can really get hurt! the house is definitely not puppy proof yet!
she is really happy though - i wish i wasn't so bitter about it bc i didn't even really want to play with him, i am a little stubborn i can't help it!

ok so last night we both went to see FMIL after FH got out of work.
At first he thought I was crazy for being upset, but then slowly we realized that she has caused more problems than we originally thought!
She picked out a teacup yorkie, at first FH was just sad that we didn't get to all go and pick him out together. But NOW we realized that if we had gone there is NO WAY we would have picked a teacup yorkie! We would have just gotten a regular yorkie.
Brutus REALLY wants to play with him, so far he has hurt him three times. I am sorry, but he isn't doing ANYTHING wrong and everyone is yelling at him. They have to live in the same house for the next four months and they can't be left in the same room together. That is just going to cause problems.
AND FMIL was supposed to watch Brutus when we go on our HM and if she can't now I am going to be REALLY annoyed - yes being selfish but we won't board him and I dont know what our other options are!! This has already been decided!
And I truly believe she did it on purpose to 'one up' me and I am annoyed. FH thinks I am crazy but he doesn't understand women!
BTW - this is the woman who couldn't afford a $100 deposit for her daughters Jr BM dress for my wedding and she whipped out a grand for this dog in a day's notice like it was nothing. by the way did i mention she got the dog from a PET STORE and FMIL's birthday isn't until January? No need to rush at all we could have coordinated something together!

I'm so sorry you've having to go through all of this, just because of someone's need for attention. She must be awfully insecure about her relationship with your FMIL.
I would hope your FMIL can see through such a lame ploy.
And BOO to FSIL for whipping out a grand at a moment's notice when it benefits her, yet being stingy with $100 when it's for someone else!!!

you have every right to be pisssssed about this, honestly i'd say 'i am not paying half...bc i had nothing to do with the purchase of THIS dog, the discussion to me paying half was based on a purchase that i would be aware of and included in, since you ran out and did it on your own, you are on your own...i will be planning another bday gift now since i was left out of this one' That's me in your shoes Matilde!
