let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

i am trying to find a lipstick that will work for me the day of my wedding....my eye makeup is very pale gray/slate with a little ivory shimmer....i have brown eyes, dark honey-blonde hair...and will be tan for my wedding....

the one my makeup artist used at my trial was a glossy peach/orange, which i am not crazy about....the glossy types usually wear off too soon and the color wasn't me...i usually wear bronze-red or wine (shimmery) or neutral beige colors...i don't want to look too made up....

any help on colors, recommended brands would be appreciated...thanks!

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

If you like a deep red, Mac makes a great color called 'Retro'... I usually hate to wear anything read (more a brown girl) but this color is really great.

Im looking for a brownish pink for my wedding day and haven't found A THING!

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

I never wear anything more than gloss on my lips so finding lipliner/stick was a problem for me. I just bought Covergirl's Outlast lip stain and gloss, and I'm happy with it. This stuff stays on! All you're supposed to do is reapply the gloss.

My sister didn't like it...her lips are dry, and the Outlast dried them out even more. After an hour or so the color got a little flaky and uneven on her lips.

But on me it was perfect. Lasted through a long night out, eating, drinking, etc. I can't remember the color I bought...iced latte maybe.

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

I agree SS, love Cover Girl Outlast and it works great on me lasting honestly from morning to night! I know people like your sister that say it is drying but they may have dry lips in general. Planning on definitely wearing it for my wedding because the gloss that my makeup trial girl put on me, color was pretty, was off in about 10 minutes flat!! Maybe I am a chronic lip licker???

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

It's really not shimmery at all.. the name of it makes it sound gross, but it is pinkish brownish.. very nude looking.. they have different shades of it, you should go to bloomies and check it out... I don't know your skin tone but, perhaps a dif shade of the bronze will compliment your skin tone better..

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

I agree with Stacdz. I wear the Cover Girl long lasting lip color as well. I was never able to stand wearing lipstick until this. I don't find it drying either and when I need to, I reapply the gloss. I've been happy with the colors it comes in too. I think that this is what I'll wear on my wedding day too...it will stay on all day and not rub off/kiss off. Once I even at corn on the cob and the stuff was still on.

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

THanks - im going to go to bloomies tonight to check it out. Ive heard great things about Bobbi Brown but never tried any.

I can't wear the Outlast stuff either. I can wear it once but then it gets all cakey. Plus - im not crazy about their color options - they always look to pink on.

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

Or Bobbi Brown's brown shimmer. I have dark eyes and brownish/reddish streaked hair and it looks good on me. I have rown it for 6 years now. Best lipstick I've ever worn....Stef, it's not 'shimmery' per se. Just give it a whirl next time you are in a department store. Bobbi Brown makes a whole series of 'shimmer' colors (plum, bronze, champagne etc) but Brown has always been my favorite.

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

I tried Covergirl Outlast also, but it was too dry for me. My sister LOVES it, so I guess it all depends. I'm going to look to see if another company makes one that is not as dry. I hear Loreal has one that last about 5-6 hours and is not as drying. I will check it out.

I may also go check out the Bobbi Brown in Bloomies. . .

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

why not go to the MAC counter and have them see what looks best on you?
I use MAC and they have long lasting liners and great lipstick colors!

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

I have dark hair and eyes, and I always wear reddish brown lipstick. the lady who did my makeup trial put this shimmery pink on me, and I was thinking, she's nuts. but when she was all done, and held up a white towel in front of me, it looked very perfect. You have to remember that you don't usually wear all white, and that light reflects color. She said if I wore my typical color I would be 'all lips' in the pics!

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

You guys are evil!

I went to Bobbi Brown today and spent $50 on a lipstick (the fat pencil kind) and a lip pencil....bad Stefanie.

Looked really great in the store - hopefully it looks just as good come wedding day.

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

I highly recommend MAC lipsticks but if you are looking for a brownish pink I would go with Plum Raisin from Clinique with Bamboo Pink over it or MAC lipglass in PRRR.

Hope this helps.

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

For JPSGirl - Who did your trial? I cannot find a makeup artist who does a good job. I always end up looking like a clown

If anyone else can recommend a makeup artist I'd really appreciate it!

Re: let's talk lipstick and lipliners...(sorry, long)

I went to a place in huntington on route 25 called NandV hair something or other. It was recommended to me by my cousin who has been going there for years. I am sleeping at her house the night before and going there with her to get our hair done and make up done that day. Have you tried one of the girls at the makeup counters> There is a kathryn at the Estee Lauder counter at bloomingdales in RF that is also good.

Lori: Im using someone that Wild Rose Video recommended. She works at the Lancome (i think) counter at Roosvelt Field somewhere. She works with my hair person but she may be willing to fly solo. If you want her info, email me.
