Let the family drama begin!

Hi Ladies!

II got engaged in August and as of yet we really haven't started planning yet. FH and I want a small intimate wedding. I am not even sure I want it at a rh or destination or at my aunts really really nice house out on the island. I know that we would like to bet marrried in the late summer early fall of 08.

Well my parents and in laws have thier own ideas of what our day should be like, they want to invite everyone and thier mothers. FH and I do not want that. While I envision the day to be a beautiful day with many details and formal- just scaled down when it comes to the list. I would rather spend our budget and have it my idea of perfect, instead of spreading it out thinner and inviting 300 people.

I am sure every engaged couple must go through some form of this but it is ANNOYING!!!!!

Sorry had to vent, I have to get ready to go to work but I hope that this gets resolved somehow over the next month or two!!!

Parents and in-laws can be annoying. Remeber it is your day and you should have it exactly the way YOU want it. Just be honest with them and tell them what you want, they will get over it. Good luck with your planning and congratulations.

All I can say is good luck. I completely lost that battle and will now be having a wedding of 300+!

Good luck and stand your ground.

Thanks ! It really is difficult! I want to avoid any conflict at all cost. FH and I still don't know what 'we' want yet so we are taking our time. I really want to look at stuff and places and try on dresses but I figured I would wait till we know what type of venue we are having before we even look at vendors. My parents are paying for a decent chunk of our wedding and we are putting in the rest. but I still want it to be about what we want... watch out bridezilla in the making LOL

i would sit all the parents down and explain to them what your vision of your wedding is (meaning you and your FH). everyone has their own views of what a wedding should be, but oftentimes they can be conflicting views. good luck!

good luck....it all also depends on who is paying if they are helping you pay...

maybe you can have both a destination intimate wedding and then have a bigger parrty with everyone after you come back from the destination affair...then everyone wins you get your intimate wedding and the parents get their more big celebration with all their family and friends....

you should also be happy that they want everyone invited to share in the joy of your wedding....

Re: Let the family drama begin!

Personally I think weddings have gotten out of hand. It's nice that parents and Inlaws want to invite everyone but I think people forget that the day is really about the bride and groom! I would definitely sit them down and tell them what you want regardless of who's paying for what. If you explain how it's been your dream to have certain things at your wedding then you should get them.

what I did was get a RH that maxes out at 200 ppl. This way my FH's side (who gets out of hand) isn't able to invite more people. If you love a place that can't hold that many people then they can't invite them:)

And no matter what...Its about you and your FH. It's great he's with you on this one.
