Let the planning begin.....

Let the planning begin.....

I haven't picked a date or location as we were just engaged yesterday, but everyone has been asking us already!!! I know places book up fast so we will have to start looking soon. We both would prefer a warmer weather wedding, so we are aiming for spring or summer. We would plan for 2012 because this spring/summer would be too soon! However I think the colder months are generally cheaper, right? Or does it even matter anymore?

My other question is, I am making a list of locations to start calling....I would prefer a location that is one wedding at a time, but it's not mandatory. This is the list so far...let me know thoughts on locations and if you have any to add.

Thanks so much!!! :)

Donna :)

1. Flowerfields
2. Villa Lombardi
3. Carlyle on the Green
4. Chateau La Mer
5. Land's End
6. North Ritz Club
7. The Royalton Roslyn

Re: Let the planning begin.....

do you have a price per person you want to stay around? The ones you have listed are a big range based on when I quoted them out.

and yes..the time of year does matter..and price will vary drastically depending on it!!

Good luck on your search!

Re: Let the planning begin.....

Welcome and make sure you come say hello on the 2012 bride board.

Take your time and enjoy your engagement. I am getting married in April of 2012 and I did not have any problem with any of the places that I looked. you still have plenty of time (especially if you are flexible with dates).

It is definitely less expensive in the winter months. The first thing you should do is figure out an approximate guest list so you know whether you are talking about 100 people wedding or a 250 person wedding. That makes a big difference. Some halls have high minimums and some are smaller and can not accomodate a large wedding.

I felt the same way after I got engaged. Everyone kept asking when, where, etc. We basically said that since we just got engaged we do not know for sure but we were thinking April or May of 2012.

I don't have a price range yet- guess I should set that, but I'm not even sure where to begin or what's 'average', if that makes sense.

I would definitely do a winter wedding to save $$, but I'm just afraid of all the family that has to travel (I have a lot of family flying in from Greece) and nervous of a snowstorm interferring. Definitely something to think about....

I will add the country club, thanks!! :)

To make your search easier you should try and decide on a price per person you are willing to spend. It makes it a lot less easier because if you go to a place and fall in love with it and then find out it is way more then you want to spend you may be very upset . I am only saying this from my own personal experience! lol

Re: Let the planning begin.....

I'm new here too, just 2 weeks maybe. I recently attended a wedding at North Ritz that was beautiful. I must say I am planning a Feb 2011 wedding NOW. You'd be surprised how easy it's been just months before. Winter is cheaper but many prefer summer/spring. I booked de Seversky Mansion at a fraction of the normal cost since it was an unbooked date and I didn't need all the hoopla that's typical. We're really on a budget (my engagement ring is a lot where we're building a house). It's a matter of what you like. I think looking at 20 places is nuts unless you have patience. I went with the first place I saw and never needed to see another. Booked the first photographer I met with, etc. Not for ease but I guess because I researched and knew what I wanted. I still need a gown (going Wed) flowers, cake but pretty good on short notice. Congrats on your engagement!

Re: Let the planning begin.....

you def have to narrow down price first

your list has places that are 65pp and 185 pp!

HUGE difference

Ive seen at least 20 places and it was a huge headache for me...so really try to think about what you want, how much you want to spend so you dont go crazy like I did

I think starting with one wedding at a time is a great place to start, that was super important to FH & I

next you need to figure out how many people you plan on having, bc not all places can accommodate all numbers

those 2 things should help narrow down your choices a lot

good luck!

carlyle on the green and royalton were 2 of my favorite places- but they are in the 150-185pp and that was a year ago, may be more now

Re: Let the planning begin.....

Thanks so much!!! I just started thinking of places I liked. It's only been 24 hours since we have become engaged, so my mind is going a mile a minute!!

Once I can sloooowwww down the excitement, I will start thinking rationally! haha :)

Congrats!

Carlyle on the Green, Roslyn Royalton, de Seversky mansion and The Woodlands were my favorites. They all host only one wedding at a time. They are on the more expensive side, but having a winter wedding could really help with saving money. Fridays and Sundays are also less than Saturdays. Good Luck!

Re: Let the planning begin.....

Look into the Old Field Club it's intimate and serene and I only knew about it because of this blog. It's only one wedding a day, you can start the wedding whatever time you want, they cook only for your wedding and the food is amazing!! FM if you want more info or prices..

If you're planning on having more than 150 people would be the only reason why I wouldn't recommend it!

Re: Let the planning begin.....

Bridgeview Yacht Club does one wedding at a time and is perfect for warmer weather months since it's on the water

Re: Let the planning begin.....

The majority of places are cheaper between November and April. At some places, you will sometimes find that they have lower prices in May, September, and/or October was well.

I'm not sure what your style is but you may want to add the riviera in massapequa which does 1 event at a time and is beautiful for winter imo. Right now I am trying to book for Fall 2012 and am stuck between Chateau La Mer and The Riviera
