Let's all learn a lesson from the Terri Schiavo case please!
Everyone should have a health care proxy. Please make your wishes known to you family members as well as knowing theirs. You can print it off this website if you have adobe. Don't put it off you never know what the future can bring!

Yes I agree. we should have something in writing, I wouldn't want to be starved to death like poor Terri was.

In addition to a health care proxy, everyone should have a living will...which Is what gives someone the right to 'pull the plug' and a power of attorney which will allow someone to act in your financial interest. A health care proxy really only allows someone to made medical decisions in regard to your care...such As okaying medication, surgery, testing, etc...when you are unconscious. This should all be done with an attorney who in knowledgable in estate planning. In addition to all the above, it is also very important to draft a will.

FH and I both have living wills. We've actually had them for a while now.

also keep in mind for people outside of NY that not every state allows living wills - they usually have a different name for something similar - (MA does not have living wills)
