I'm both an SUV and car driver and find that many of the agressive SUV drivers you see are in a certain age bracket. Same goes for cars, there are just as many reckless car drivers. The SUVs just happen to be more noticeable on the road, especially when you're driving a car.

Don't they know that when they tailgate at night the driver in front of them is nearly BLINDED. I can't see anything except for their headlights when an SUV tails me. I end up having to slow down. I also can't see AROUND them when they are that close to determine if I can ge the heck out of the lane. SUVs make me nuts

I have an SUV.. i love it.. its the best for trips, bulk shopping like Price club..

And im gonna get another one when we have kids.. I wont drive a minivan (NO OFFENCE)

I also have a passat.. and there are just as many obnoxious car drivers as there are SUV drivers..

I don't plan on having any more than 2 kids so why would I need an SUV, a station wagon OR a mini van???? I'm just going to get a Lincoln LS with 4 doors (I only buy American cars).

Plus- the whole shopping thing isn't true- my mother is a professional musician- has a bass, amps, and speakers, plus mic stands, music, etc and she puts it in her TRUNK and it FITS... so why people need a SUV for groceries dumbfounds me.

My Stepmother was driving around in a V8 SUV (forgot what type) that took $35-40 to fill up every 3 days... um... she only has 2 kids..

If she had a more economical car she could put away $80 a week in savings for the kids college education instead of wasting it on gas and RUINING THE ENVIRONMENT that her kids have to live in!

Lets face it- unless you live in the mountains or have 4+kids.. there is no need for a SUV. Especially on LI. We plow snow after 1/4' and salt/sand, there are no hills, there is no off roading, there are no mudslids.. so what's the deal?

I'm sorry but I HATE THEM.. could you tell?

Just a little

We have the Saturn Vue which like a baby SUV. We get decent milage and it takes regular gas so our gas costs have decreased (go figure?).

We find that it is pretty convenient for moving around odd/large things. Which we seem to do a lot - I have no idea how that happens. :D

My main complaint about SUV's is they block your view at corner spots and in parking lots. But there's not much that can done about that. It's not like you can say cars park hear, suv's park there.

I think SUV seem obnoxious when driven by an aggressive driver b/c the vehicle is bigger. But that's the driver not the SUV and I am sure they would drive the same way in a regular car.

I don't count those saturns or those subarus- they really aren't SUVs.. they are revamped station wagons but they call them SUVs so you don't feel like a dork!!!!

My problem with SUV's isn't the drivers it's the sheer size of them. I mean, you can have a horrible drivers in any vehicle. What drives me crazy is the fact that you can't see around them. You go to change lanes to get around the beast so you can monitor traffic ahead of you and bang! Someone's there and you didn't even know it. So frustrating! My solution -- SUV's should be restricted to the rightmost lane only!! Or, at least, ban them from the leftmost lane so people in normal sized cars can have one lane where they can see the road!! That goes for minivans, full-sized vans and minibuses too!!

but I have this irrational fear of having triplets!! DH says we'll deal with it when the time comes...

as for parking...there ARE spots that save COMPACT cars...yet BIG SUVs park in them!!! WHY!!! they are for compact cars because they are SMALL spots!!! @#$%$#@#$#

Oh but Sassyz75 -- you forgot the single most important use/need for an SUV.... to hop that curb so you can make that left turn signal!! That the most 'off-road' use those things get here on LI!!
