Lets talk about HEALTHY foods................

I'm really trying to keep healthier foods in my house so that I'm not drawn to eating junk, but I'm really drawing a blank here. What are some healthy snacks you like to keep in your house? Healthy meals you like to make?

I know just about everyone on here is trying to lose weight at this point so I'm hoping we can all help each other out here.

Unsalted Almonds as a quick snack. Carrot sticks and hummus. Pirates Booty and Smart Food snacks. (in moderation)

Here's a snack - I get raw, unsalted almonds and soak them overnight. It changes the texture in a pleasing way.
Also, I'm trying not to eat any white flour or sugar. That's the hard one because I'm crazy in love with pasta and bread. But, I'm doing the best I can.
Also, I'm cutting down on the cheeeeeeeeeeese, which is REALLY hard.
Good luck. I can't wait to hear everyone's tricks!

Almonds, fruit, veggies, rice cakes. I also go to trader joe's and get their 100 calorie packs (the ones in the supermarket have hydrogenated oil which is no good for you) and dried fruit.
I make a lot of stir fry, I also don't eat red meat, so I make turkey burgers or I make grilled chicken parm(rather than fry the chicken in oil and bread crumbs, I grill it till it is almost done and then bake it with sauce and cheese the rest of the time)

Special-K snack bars are actually really, really good. They have strawberry and chocolate. I also try to drink only Propel water (ok, and wine ). I bought some healthy cookbooks at TJ Maxx for like $4.

For pasta lovers, I read about this pasta on hungry-girl.com called FiberGourmet. . . it only has 2 points per serving because its loaded with fiber and has low calories.

I ordered it online and love it

I also like having laughing cow in the house, which is really good on melba toast rounds. . and salsa on melba rounds is really good too.

Re: Lets talk about HEALTHY foods................

Low fat string cheese
Laughing Cow cheese
Almonds
ALL fruit and veggies
Hummus and whole grain pretzels or crackers
Kashi Go Lean Bars
Canned Tuna

Dinner ideas:
You can always broil a piece of fish with a little dijon and lemon brushed on top
A sweet potato in the microwave takes 5 mins
Escarole and beans and chicken sausage http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_66439,00.html
Switch out regular pasta for barilla plus or whole wheat and saute veggies to put on top with canned tomato sauce
SOUP!! If you make your own its an easy way to get lots of veggies and is fairly low-cal
Check out Ellie Krieger's recipes on foodtv.com - they are all fairly quick and definitely healthy
Also magazines like HEALTH always have quick and easy healthy recipes.

Good luck!

I make the jello sugar free pudding weekly & out it with the fat free cool whip- i need chocolate on a regular basis

i also always have cut up veggies and fat free sour cream (mix the lipton onion soup & its great)

the ww products are amazing- the desserts, breads, pitas, (i hate their bagels)

eddys makes amazing sugar free ice cream very low cal & fat too

I get the small packs of the baked chips just to have them available

my favorite though is lifesavers makes sugar free butterscotch candies, I keep them on my desk and they keep me from overeating during the day.

Re: Lets talk about HEALTHY foods................

I've been trying to do the same thing but yea everytime I go to the store I'm SO lost on what to buy!
I did find these turkey sausage patties that I have in the morning with egg whites. They're sooo yummy!

I've been making chicken pretty much every night but with different sides....different veggies and salad. I found a salad dressing that you can spritz on ur salad that only has 1 calorie per spray.
I'm not sure if it's bad but I'll get an avocado and eat that with a little salt as a snack. So good!
