I am going for my 20 week level 2 ultrasound on St. Patty's Day and was wondering if it was an internal (yuck) or external exam? Also, is this the ultrasound where you get the 3D view??
TIA!!!!

Re: Level II Ultrasound
My 20 week was an external. This was when we got to see if it was a boy or a girl. The 3-D ultrasound, I think, are for high risk pregnancies. That is what the technician told me, because I was curious to see my baby in 3-D too!!

Re: Level II Ultrasound
It is external, but you must request before hand to have a 3D sono done. There are only certain doctors who do 3D's and you'll want to make sure they have it at your office.

See that's the thing I don't understand. I have had other sonos done at my doctor's office, but for this one they are sending me somewhere else. That's why I'm thinking it has to be something other than just a regular sono. I also have to drink 32 ounces of water and hold it. So I'm not too sure what is going on--I have to get in touch with them to sort this out!
Thanks for all the responses!!!

Re: Level II Ultrasound
Same with me, I had mine done at Nassau Radiology, not my doctors office... But when you make the appointment you have to request the 3D and they will give you an appointment for when the doctor who does 3Ds has office hours. It is different than the regular sonos.. More in depth. They do a regular one at first and take a ton of measurements.

Re: Level II Ultrasound
Mine was both internal and external because they wanted to keep an eye on my cervix. So first they did the external and took all the measurements, determined the sex, etc. Then they did an internal and checked my cervix real quick.

I was actually curious about this myself. I'm getting my 18-week done today and this is the first time they've sent me out of my regular dr's office. I have to drink the water and everything too, so I was a bit confused. It seems to be the norm though.

I'm due August 2nd, so we're very very close. We may have our babies on the same day. Wouldn't that be funny?
I'll update as soon as I get back!
