LI Teachers- Salary in LI?? (X-Post)

What is the average salary for a beginning teacher in LI? What about a 2nd or 3rd year teacher? Trying to decide whether I should try for LI or keep focus on the city.

It's different where you go...Northshore vs. South, Nassau Vs. Suffolk...but I would said it is mid 40's no additional credits or years.

I think you would make more on Long Island.

my sister is a teacher in the city who started out on LI. LI is VERY VERY competitive b/c of the salaries. the kids are spoiled brats and be prepared to have zero authority (thanks to law suits).

SHE LOVES teaching in NYC where the kids try harder (for the most part) and her peers and higher ups appreciate her rather than treat her with contempt.

Mid forties, I agree, depending on what the district grants you if you have credits or prior experience.

No offense to those who are, but I would rather have my legs cut off than be a school counselor on Long Island again.

my sister would agree with you. she started out her teaching career on LI and it was a miserable experience for her!

Coming from a teacher who works in the Bronx, THE COMMUTE STINKS!!!
But I am happy here. Don't get me wrong, I have those bad days, but for the most part, its not as terrible as everyone might think. However, you would probably get paid better in Long Island. Just be careful where you go. My neighbor started in a school last year and was yelling at me to get my resume to them, well, to make a long story short, he will not have a job there next year because of the budget. Last hired, first fired. Be sure to do research on the school before excepting a position. Always find out how the budget is doing.
At least in the city, we don't have to worry about getting laid off, we just have to worry about getting a contract. Next month, will be 2 years without one, or is it 3? I am not sure, I lost count.
Good Luck to you!!!
If you want more info about the city schools, FM me.

However, Im just not feeling it at my school and would like to move on. (To be honest I do not like my new principal) Let me know if you all know of any phys ed positions on the island K - 12

TIA!

It DEPENDS on the school you are at in the City... some places are not as 'nice' and the kids DONT try as hard. but yes, you are correct with the competitivness.

but Amberbride, as for salaries... Yes, you will make more on LI.
