Sooo....my wedding is saturday. My hall called to say that they have not yet received my band's liability insurance and that it will not be accepted day of. FH and I have been contacting the band leader for about a week now and he has been telling us that he is changing insurance companies but that he WILL have it to the Woodlands asap. At what point do I panic and start recruiting subway musicians to play at my wedding? LOL (not really though, I am kind of freaking). TIA!

Re: Liability Insurance
You could always take out wedding/event insurance to cover the band if they dont get their insurance on time. It might be a good idea to look into it.

Re: Liability Insurance
Put something in writing to the band ASAP. It's much easier to ignore/discount a phone call, than something in writing. Demand that they get the insurance cert. to Woodlands no later than noon on Thursday to give yourself a little cushion.
What band is it?

Re: Liability Insurance
Thanks It's NOT a Long Island band (unfortunately) so you have nothing to worry about. It's someone who operates indepenently out of NJ...truthfully I was leery of them from day 1. In my family, you go to Hank Lane or Steven Scott, or something like that, and book a band through them. My in laws used them and raved and asked if they could arrange this for us. I have never used a semi-professional part-time band (all the musicians have day jobs) that operates independently. I am getting very nervous. But thanks for the advice!

I wasn't asking the band name out of concern for myself. I was hoping it may have been a band that Woodlands was familiar with and had dealt with before, hoping that maybe in that case they would be more lenient about the timing.
Have you contacted Hank Lane or anyone else to line up a plan B, in case you need it?
I've got my fingers crossed that everything works out!

Re: Liability Insurance
No such luck, unfortunately. He isn't an LI vendor at all. Yes, I did call Hank Lane and fortunately they have several bands that can accomodate us. I am giving the original band till tomorrow and then my mom and I are proceeding straight to Hank Lane and booking. I should mention that this original band has already been paid in full so there's not even that much motivation for him to come through. THis is ridiculous that I have to deal with this right? I just wanted to double check that this is not a common occurance. My family owns a small business and if you ask us to produce general liability insurance it's done in 15 minutes, not 15 days. We asked him to give us this on April 8 and he told us he was in the 'midst of switching policies' but would get it done. That was the first red fkag, But as you can imagine, this is causing some stress with me and FH as this is his family's guy and they think he;s great.

Re: Liability Insurance
Just make sure that you put something in writing to the original band notifying them of the deadline and demanding a full refund if they can't/won't produce the insurance certificate on time. Also, make sure you file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs. They may be able to help you get your money back (or at least part of it).
I'm sorry that you have to deal with this. Either way, I'm sure you'll have great music for your wedding.

Re: Liability Insurance
the liability insurance the you can buy costs about $250, which would be better than loosing ur money if the band doesnt refund your money..... i think it takes a few hours or a day to get the liability ins
