Anyone have any opinions on the quality of the Lighthouse @ Chelsea Piers?

Re: Lighthouse @ Chelsea Piers
I responded to one of your earlier posts about the Lighthouse...my best friend is getting married there in April. It's an Abigail Kirsch place - Abigial Kirsch has a great reputation! I haven't seen the place yet, but it's supposed to be beautiful...right on the water with views of the Statue of Liberty.

I girl I used to work with is getting married there next month, and my MOH went to a wedding there-- it's supposed to great.. Abigal Kirsch is the caterer- well known and respected.
I have been there for work functions-- I would def recommend when it's warm.

Abigail Kirsch is very reputable and is suppose to have great food. Unfortunately, recently I've been hearing some questionable things- like although the food is delicious, people leave hungry due to small portions. I'm not trying to scare/insult anyone, I'm just repeating what I've heard.

Re: Lighthouse @ Chelsea Piers
Never went to a wedding there but our firm holiday party has been there for 2 years - including the 12/2/04 party this year.
We had a casino theme both times and it's a really fun place. I have no idea about weddings but the food has been really good and it's a nice party space. We had a cracked crab and shrimp cocktail station which always goes over well. We had a couple of carvings, pasta stations and some chafing dishes. They also have an ice cream bar option - which we got both times.
We never got the sit down dinner option.

Re: Lighthouse @ Chelsea Piers
I was just there for a Christmas Party.
It's a really beautiful space, the party was in the Starlite Room. The entire front of the room are flor to ceiling windows so you can see the water and part of another wall are those same window as well.
The dance floor is not in the center of the room as most receptions but it's kind of in the side of the room.
The food is catered by Abigail Kirsch (excellent) and the service was excellent.
Hope this helps!
ETA: I don't think the portions were any smaller than any other event/wedding I've been to.

Re: Lighthouse @ Chelsea Piers
I worked at Chelsea Piers (location of lighthouse) for 2 years. It is a great venue with excellent food and wonderful views... The individuals (when I worked there) were extremely professional and a lot of fun...but then of course I guess my opinion is a bit biased.
(I did not work for The Lighthouse) just Chelsea Piers Management in their head office...

Count me as one more who's heard slightly mixed reviews about the food and service at a couple of the Abigail Kirsch venues. I didn't hear anything specific to portion size; just more general quality issues. But then again, the reviews that weren't bad were absolutely glowing, so I get the feeling that maybe there have been a couple of random flaws here and there, but that overall they are known for high quality and you'll probably do fine with them.

When I called them over the summer they quoted me over $300 a person with a high minimum.

Went to a wedding there and it was fantastic! The passed apps were GREAT and for dinner they had buffet ... one option was like a steakhouse dinner (filet, creamed spinach, etc) the other was ethnic (paella, etc) ... all really yummy and great setting.
