When I signed with my Dj Body Rock my FH for some reason was obsessed with the lights-because they are gadgets not because he likes the lights. So I gave in to one little thing and said he can have the basic lights. (7 ft lights that just light up the floor-NO light show). But I am wondering if there is a huge difference between lights and no lights. Not intelligent lighting which is too clubby but just the basic lights flashing. What do you think? Be kind.

Re: Lights or no lights
I personally like when a DJ uses his lights. I paid extra for the lights and they were well worth it. To answer your question, I believe there is a difference.

Honestly, I just think it adds to the excitement. Its not really necessary, but it just looks nice. It also depends if you having a day or night wedding.

I think if the venue is right, lights are a plus. However, I don't think they fit into mine and I'm also having a day wedding. FH didn't really care about the lighting (thank goodness) and if it were a night wedding, I might have thought about it. Go with what you love.. if you love the lights (or rather, your FH does..) I guess you should get em It definitely puts people in the party mood

It's a night wedding, so I feel without them the room could be kind of dark and dull. However, I am shooting for a formal affair and dare I say it with a DJ and all possibly Black tie optional. But my main concern is that it looks too clubbish-But you know what it's my damn party so what! right?

I am not using lights because I am having a daytime wedding, and you wouldn't be able to see them.

I had my wedding at the WM and we had full out lighting package and my dance floor was completely packed the entire night. I went to a wedding last weekend with a band and no lighting and the dance floor was empty the entire night.
To me ... seeing everyone dancing and laughing and singing along to the songs is better than anything in the world. My guests had FUN because it was a party atmosphere.
I understand you girls want classy and elegant but that doesn't mean lighting is unclassy or unelegant ... it can set the mood for the entire night. I considered my wedding very classy, not overdone and yet, I considered it a party night where everyone was nuts on the dance floor. We played everything from do-wops, to Mowtown, to Rap to Reagae to Techno to Old School 80's music ...

Re: Lights or no lights
Ugh!! I thought I'd decided on my lighting issue until I saw this post Like you, I am concerned about it looking too much like a club rather than a wedding. We're having a Saturday night wedding and I'm also concerned that the dance floor won't look very inviting without some kind of lights .
One thing I heard though was that the lights can sometimes interfere with the photographer taking pictures? People end up with weird lights on their faces from the DJ's lighting system.

Re: Lights or no lights
Thanks guys! I know from other posts that brides were saying that black tie optional is not conducive to a DJ. But as much as I love bands-I know my friends and I party harder with DJs. That's why I opted for it. I'd have to say that I am not being cheap with this wedding and therefore the playing of the music shouldn't determine the formality. The food, hosts, drinks, guests, and attire should.

YESSSSSSSS! Exactly! I was at a black tie affair recently - a real black tie affair, all the men had tuxes and all the women had gowns at the Garden City Hotel and they had a DJ and lighting like a club. It was a benefit, not a wedding.

Re: Lights or no lights
We booked Body Rock too, and were debating on the lights. We decided to say no, because I really don't want it to look clubby. So rather than worry, I just won't have them. I think that suits us better.

Re: Lights or no lights
What I REALLY wanted was to have one of those lights that displays your monogram on the dance floor. I thought that would be a nice compromise, but I was told it wouldn't really work.

Re: Lights or no lights
I don't want the dance floor to look like a club either, so I just got a basic lighting package.
Since your wedding (and mine, too) is at night I think you def need something!!! During the day it's not necessary but you don't want the room to be too dark at night. I want class and elegance too, but at the same time I want people on the dance floor!!!
I saw Body Rock at a showcase and I thought their lighting was great, I don't think you have anything to worry about!!

We're getting whatever lights come with the basic package. We're not getting anything added. Our DJ said that lights that come with the basic are good enough.

Re: Lights or no lights
as for the body rock brides, is the basic light package the one that's considered package c??? and for jenniesunshine-i wouldn't necessarily worry too much about the lights as far as pics. how many brides have djs and have not had that complaint? not a big deal....

Re: Lights or no lights
If I was having a DJ I definitly would have some lights. I dont think it looks to clubby. I think without lights it would look blah...
