General consensus is that we are not required to provide a ride back from the wedding for our bridal party, however, I'm extremely worried about their welfare if I do that. I'm afraid that since our party will have no ride back, they'll end up driving with alcohol in their system. I'd hate to have that on my shoulders. What did everyone else do? Or, what do you plan to do?

Re: Limo Dilema
this is just my opinion, but people are adults. if they can't determine for themselves how to get home, that's sad. I would maybe include in their gifts a list of local taxi services for them to keep on hand. JMO, but you should not be obligated to get them a ride home too

We arranged for our bridal party to be picked up by a local cab service after the wedding.

Jenny2Penny Thank you so much for sharing your opinion. I find that a lot of the times my posts have been viewed quite a lot, but no one has expressed themselves. I love how honest you are. You make me look at this in a different light.

That's an interesting idea. If you don't mind my asking, are you paying for their cabs?

Thanks, I just try to express how I feel and I know in my situation everyone lives in different areas and we are spending enough. If it was a regular party I was throwing I would not pay for a cab, I'd have them stay over. But I feel, like anyother time, they should or their date should, know when to have enough. I don't agree with anyone driving drunk, and I'd hope worsty case a guest would step in and help them get home. You should not have to worry about this too, again JMO

Yes we paid for it we added it in with our limo contract but I don't remember how much we paid for each person.
We also had a small BP so it wasn't too big a deal.

Re: Limo Dilema
We are providing transportation for the bridal party, and the parents after the wedding.
We have a 32 passanger bus and a 12 passanger limo. My family and friends are big drinkers, and the hall is far from everyone's home. I do not want them to have to fend for themselves to get rides home, and I also don't want them to have to spend an arm and a leg on a taxi.

Thank you for sharing Christine!
jar823, a bus for everyone. Hmmm that's another fabulous idea. We have 16 in our bridal party, so limos are very expensive. A bus gives us the option to allow other guests who may end up needing a ride to join as well.
Thank you so much to everyone who is responding. These ideas are giving me a lot to think about and making me feel so much better all around.

Re: Limo Dilema
I actually arranged a van to take the BP to and from the church and reception back to the hotel where we're spending our wedding night. (We're all meeting there) From there they are on their own to get home from the hotel(some of the BP is staying at the hotel anyway). I figure I'd rather have people get a ride back to a hotel where they can catch a cab or stay the night, and I feel better that they can enjoy themselves (drink up!) and not worry about getting home. I figure the $550 is well worth the peace of mind and besides, IMO they're paying all this money to come to the wedding, why not give them a lift.

$550 is extremely reasonable. I'm really liking the idea of booking either a van or a bus instead of a limo.

Re: Limo Dilema
I would definately not worry about them getting home.. most of them ( i am assuming) have been to weddings before... Then they should know their limits as well. Do they have other friends or family that will be attending? Most of my BP had boyfriends or girlfriends or their parents attending our wedding as well.. Thats how they got home!

Re: Limo Dilema
Many of our guests (including bridal party) are staying at a hotel the night of the wedding. Our hall offers free shuttle service to and from the hotel so I'm not too worried. For those who are driving home - like Jenny stated, they are all supposed to be mature and responsible adults so if they don't plan on getting a hotel room they better not get plastered that night or have a designated driver if they plan to drink heavily.

You girls are all 100% right about guests being responsible. I sincerely hope that they will all know when it's time to stop drinking. I am however a worrier! You're all helping me out so much with these wonderful ideas. I have a list of options to check into. Please keep them coming!

I agree with the idea that they are all responsible adults - and most should have a spouse or date that can give them a lift later - the only thing is those that give them a ride - are you providing transportation to the hotel? or to their individual homes - b/c the last wedding I went to the bus drove everyone to the hotel and then most turned around and got into a car and left - so I guess that kind of defeats the purpose!

I like the list of taxis. Plus, how are your BP's significant others getting there?

Well, I still haven't signed a final contract with the limo company because I wanted to get everyone's opinions first. However, we were thinking about having the limo's (now I'm leaning towards bus or van) drop everyone off at their homes on the way to the hotel.

The only problem with taxis is that they all seem to be so unreasonably priced on LI.
If we end up providing transportation back from the wedding for the BP we'll suggest that the significant others car pool so that way there's only 2 or 3 cars to p/up the next morning.
