My Fiancee and I are getting married at the beach, right in the sand. So I don't think that black suits and shiny formal shoes are going to quite fit into the beach theme. An alternative is earthly colored linen suits, and barefeet or sandals/flipflops which we I like the casualness of. Has anyone been to a wedding with linen suits before? Is this footware appropriate? Do they wear ties? Opinions appreciated!

i think sandals are appropriate with linen, prob no ties. this is of course if youa re going for the more casual look
my cousin got married onthe beach in jamaica and wore a tux and dress shoes.. its all about the look youa re going for

Absolutley love the idea. I have seen people where flip flops to a beach wedding. Ties are not needed if you want to stay casual; some might think it is to casual. But I love it.

My FH wanted to wear one! I thought it was a cool idea (there are pics in bridal mags of this & they look great, PLUS one of his friends wore a linen suite & as per FH...it was a GORGEOUS PLUSH wedding). They wore shoes.

What a fabulous idea- I can't wait to tell my roommate- her and her fiance are getting married on the beach in Jamaica. My suggestion is barefoot though- I don't think I'd want him 'flopping' around with the flip flops- but thats just me

We're getting married on LI, but it is a low-key wedding where I'm not wearing a traditional bridal gown so my FH is considering wearing a linen suit (earth or gray tones) with a tie. I love how linen breathes and our wedding is in the dead of summer so it would be comfortable.
Do you have any ideas where you might go shopping for the suit, Jackie?

A linen suit for a beach wedding is perfect! If your going for that relaxed, beachy feel, I think anything goes really. If we were getting married on he beach, I think I'd want us to go barefoot...I just think its cute and makes things feel really laid-back

I wanted my FH to do a linen suit but it wrinkles REALLY, REALLY badly and I didn't like how it looked with all the wrinkles, so I had him do a summery tan suit from banana republic. Just a thought! (pics in my albums)

I have, my best friend got married in St. John's USVI and he wore a linen suit with sandals.
They had put out a little basket for guests to leave their shoes before walking onto the sand.
