My fiance and I decided not to have an open bar at our wedding. He came up with an idea to buy wine on our own and put like 2 or 3 bottles on each table. Does anyone know if a reception hall would allow that?

Probably not...I wouldn't think the Riviera would allow it. I don't think they would reduce the price at least.....Why don't you want to have an open bar?

Well they did reduce the price for us which i didnt think they would. but our families dont drink at all, just our friends do. So he was thinking of just buying some bottles of wine on our own..

hmmmmm....Is it worth the price difference...if you don't mind me asking how much are they knocking off per person? Do all your friends only drink wine?

I don't think it's worth it. I would stay with an open bar. If you were opposed to drinking because of religious reasons I would say don't have an open bar or any alcohol at all but that's not the case.

Re: Liquor at Wedding
So what about if we bought the wine from them instead of buying it ourselves??

Re: Liquor at Wedding
You may want to consider having an open bar, but run a tab instead of paying per head.
Talk to your banquet manager and ask the average price per drink. You may be able to guesstimate how much it will cost depending how many people will probably drink and if they are heavy or light drinkers.
Hope this helps!

you wouldn't buy the wine..you would just pay for a only serve wine bar....
imo not worth it..

you should call your hall and ask... but I don't think they'll allow that.

just as an FYI, folks who don't drink all that much tend to do so at weddings, IMO.

this is what our caterer told us, too.... they don't provide alcohol... we go to a liqour store and buy our own and can return any unopened bottles... and the caterer said to keep in mind that when they aren't paying for alchol, even people who usually aren't heavy drinkers tend to drink a decent amount... i would see if your hall offers an open bar but with a tab instead of a price per head., seems like that would be the best option for you...

Re: Liquor at Wedding
we opted not to do a full open bar- instead we are doing open wine beer and soda.
i know some girls have said in the past that this seems cheap- but we have to save where we can.
IMO I would not think it was cheap. You should check out this option- it saved us $10pp!!

Re: Liquor at Wedding
We just decided to do wine, beer, and champagne at our reception. 99 perecent of our guests at this reception will be church friends. Only a handful can handle alcohol so we figured it wasn't worth it to pay the extra money.
