I know it's usually standard to have an open bar at a wedding reception.
BUT...we're having brunch after the wedding ceremony, so I'm guessing that our reception would be over by 4 or 5 in the evening.
Do I need to have an open bar? I thought since it was a brunch, I could maybe have unlimited mimosas or something on the tables.
I just can't imagine people eating breakfast foods and slugging back liquor.

I would imagine wine, beer and champagne/mimosas would be enough.

I would offer champagne at least, but day wedding usually have beer wine and soda - it's usually much less expensive too

I've been to day weddings too with an open bar, but all of them were sit-down meals.
We're actually having breakfast: omelette stations, pancakes, bagels and fruit.
I didn't think an open bar would go well with that combo.

Re: Liquor question
thats the one thing that like all bridal magazines and shows say not to do...cash bars are like insulting....open bar is the best way to go!

Re: Liquor question
i would def say no to a cash bar maybe you can have the wine/champagne, etc and just in case have the RH run a tab on any other liquor that people order...then settle the tab at the end

Re: Liquor question
See im no help bc my family and i loove to drink and will drink at anytime any place. I personally would be upset if I went to a wedding and there was no alcohol or a cash bar.
If you are going with the omelettes, brunch ideas, I would say yes, mimosas, bloody marys, and maybe even Bailys for the irish coffees too. The wine sounds like a good idea too.

Re: Liquor question
we are thinking about the liquor thing too...i decided that if we didnt have open bar, everyone would instantly decide they need to have a jack and coke at noon!! maybe if you can have unlimited champagne, mimosas, bellinis, etc. (maybe even wine) and let people drink if they want but do like a cash bar but you pay at the end not them of course...bc chances are not too many people are going to drink and the die hards can drink and you just pay per drink at the end. if that is even possible, i dont know.

Re: Liquor question
What are the times???? Start time? I kind of have to agree with some of the girls that ending at 4 or 5 seems like a kind of late brunch....and people at that point if they are at a wedding might want a full bar.

Re: Liquor question
you can def do something like that, you can also probably add a beer and wine package, its less expensive than open bar and def appropriate

We're starting the brunch at 12:30 and we would have the room for 4 hours. That's why I thought with the time and our menu, unlimited mimosas, wine, sangria (stuff like that) would go well instead of an open bar.
Decisions, decisions......LOL

Re: Liquor question
I just thought of this and you can tell me if you hate this idea, but instead of a cocktail hour, why dont you have a brunch hour where they serve brunch foods and then have a regular reception that follows? Unless the whole idea of the regular reception is what you were trying to avoid.
