So, apparently, Penn Station is a mob scene right now..do I leave work now and risk the mobs and stand around for an hour....or chill here at work and wait for it to calm down?
Opinions?

i would chill if i were you. FI just called me about 20 min. ago and said that i did not even want to KNOW what it was like at penn station and what he had to do to get on the train to come home. luckily he has an NYPD i.d., so he didn't have to wait to purchase tix. but he said that place is out of control.

Simple, you can do 3 alternatives....
1. Take the 7 train to Hunterspoint and catch the LIRR 2. Take the E train to Jamaica to catch the LIRR. 3. Chill out, catch a movie, go shopping, or get some dinner, then go home.
Both might be somewhat crowded, but probably nowhere near as bad as Penn Station.

I am going to Penn now. I figure, how much better can it be in an hour or two? I would rather just get there, and get online

Re: LIRR? Leave now or wait?
I am watching it on tv now and it is really a bad mob scene. they closed two of the main entrances to try to control traffic. i honestly think it is going to be crazy no matter when u go so u might be better off just getting down there and at least getting on line.

Re: LIRR? Leave now or wait?-UPDATE, I went!
Ok, I WENT to Penn at 5pm. A friend of mine called and said she was going, so I wanted to try and meet up with her.
Well, I got on a 630 train after waiting an HOUR to get INTO Penn last night. My train was 40 minutes late getting home.
I could care less about the train being late and having to wait to get into Penn, really I could care less. BUT, the lack of crowd control at Penn was infuriating. We were packed together like sardines. The police and National Guard did nothing about it. People were obviously pissed off and I was waiting to get trampled. I'm not joking, I almost had a panic attack, and I'm not a 'nervous' person by any means.
I love the NYPD and National Guard, I have family members in both, so don't think I'm trying to slam them. But, they need tor e-evalute how they're handling this all before someone gets seriously injured. Once we finally got into Penn it was empty and trains were leaving on time and empty because noone was communicating to the LIRR that there were people waiting to get in. PLUS, there was not one bag check that I saw, and usually they're really good about that. I felt very unsafe in Penn Station for the first time ever last night.
I'm staying in the city tonight!
Good luck to all of you commuting!

LOL Ok so I must have been on drugs yesterday!!!
I keep forgetting I'm not in the city anymore!!! So then my advice would have been to chill out till about 7 and then go home.
