Hi all, I normally have a pre-paid plan through work to get my monthly train ticket with unlimited Metro Card, but due to a Mail and Ride mix-up, I have to purchase them seperately now for June. Can I buy a monthly LIRR ticket and an Unlimited ride MetroCard all at once, or do I need to go to two seperate machines? I tried the other day at Penn, but the highest Metro Card option available at the LIRR ticket machine was the $40, no unlimited either. Just confused, thanks for the help!!
Well I buy both.. and I've never see a place I buy them together other than Mail & Ride which I don't trust.
So, no. I buy my LIRR after the 20th or on the weekend I buy the MTA around the 10th right now. I'm trying to move it close to the 15th since I get paid the 15th & 30th.
Anything near the first gets nasty.
If you figure out a way though I'd be grateful if you passed on the information!
yeah, that's the easiest way I think - M&R gives me my monthly ticket and the unlimited Metro Card all in one card, so it's really nice. I've been a Mail & Ride customer for over four years now - and this is the first time I've had a problem with getting my ticket in time. Oh well - I'll just have to face the stupid machines again! I just hate how inconvenient it is when I'm so used to getting everything all at once Thanks ladies for the feedback!
I've heard too many horror stories. It's not like a missed payment on a credit card, if they lose your check you have no 'ride' to work and back and THAT is something I'm not willing to play with.
*shrug*
There should be a way to do this WITHOUT mail & ride.. like at the windows or something in Penn.
I agree that there should be more ways of getting tickets - I think there is a WebTicket thing through the MTA website that looks like it's similiar to Mail& Ride, but I havent really checked it out. I am curious though, as to why the LIRR ticket machines don't offer the unlimited metro cards - it's not like they aren't available or anything... wierd.
I dont' take LIRR, I take metro North now, but I just wanted say THANK YOU-- For reminding me to get my JUNE ticket before it gets too crazy! The machine at my local station shouldn't be crowded tonight.
I get my monthly from the machine & my unlimted metro card through the transit check program at work.
BTW- wehn I go to LI for wedignstuff or to see my family, I get a ticek t at eh machien, and I've noticed peopel always use the onrs inthe center. The ones on the side of the elevator, next to Hudson news, are usually empty, or have VERY short lines! They aren't that hard to find, I don't get it. . .
LOL - that's so funny what you said about the lines always being long at some machines and not others! Just last night I noticed this - there were about 7 people on line at the one machine at Penn, and not 5 feet away was another machine, completely empty (and it WAS a working machine!) It amazes me sometimes - like people just naturally flock to the longest line first! ick - I hope none of these dodos are at the machines when I get MY tickets tonight!
