Listen to what my car dealer did....

Listen to what my car dealer did....

I had my car into the dealer 3 times in the past month. I first brought it into the dealer to have the oil changed, inspection done and my radio to be checked out (for a while, all I was getting was the christmas music station!). Well, we brought it in on Christmas Eve and since they were closed Christmas Day, we picked it up on Thursday (12/27). They said everything was fixed, but when I got it home, the radio didn't work again. So, I called them to tell them. We made another appt. for New Year's Eve. Later that day, I noticed my center consol latch was broken off and missing! I called them back and they told me that they would check into it when I bring my car in.

I brought it in New Year's eve and picked it up that Thurs. since they were closed for New Year's day. They told me that the radio needed a part and to come back on Tuesday (yesterday). They also told me that the latch I noticed was broken and missing wasn't their fault and insuinuated that I did it, but told me that they were not going to start an arguement over a 6 dollar part so they just replaced it for me, no charge~ how wonderful of them!!!! (sarcastic).

Well, I brought it in on Monday night for my appt on tues. I picked it up tues night and everything seemed fine, the radio worked and I was happy. This morning my DH and I drove into work together (we work in the same building and his car's in the shop- long story on that one, but not as f*@#ked up as this!). When I got out and went into the back seat to get my breifcase, I noticed some of what I needed fell onto the floor of my car. I bent down to pick it up and found baby toys! We don't have kids, know friends who have kids, etc!!!!!!! . I asked my DH if they were his for anything and he said 'no, what are they?' Well, after being shocked for a few minutes and baffled, we are thinking that the dealer lent out my car to someone or someone who works at the dealer took my car to pick up their kids and left toys in the back seat! ! WTF?????

Well, were were so ****ed and went straight there after work to confront them. On the way, I noticed that they had clocked my car milage in as 20,015 and out at 20,017. I looked at the milage my car was on now and it read 20,122!!!!! again~ WTF???? We did not drive 100 miles yeaterday from picking up my car to the time we got home from the dealer. We live 5 miles from our job and less than 10 miles from the dealer. How did this happen?

So, my DH goes into the service area and demands to speak with the service manager. They tell us that he just left and that they are front managers. We really wanted to speak with the head of teh whole dept. so we are waiting for a phone call from him when he returns on Friday. If not, we are going back up there to kick some a**!

I feel so violated! What happens if this guy who took my car got into an accident? I goes on my insurance! I checked this one out before we went to see them tonight so I have all the facts straight.

Isn't this horrible?

wish me luck! They are not going to get away with this!

Ugh...that s*cks. One time after my mom had brought her car in for service, I found a long red acrylic nail in between the cushion and back of the back seat. Firstly, nobody in my family wears acrylic nails, secondly, my mom only uses her car to get to and from work, and rarely has any passengers (never in the back). So I often wonder, whose nail that was, and how did it get there. Ick.

speak to the service manager, speak to the owner and even speak to the car company directly (ex. Call Ford or VW directly)!!!

Re: Listen to what my car dealer did....

I thought your car was possesed at first (christmas music), sorry j/k.

In all seriousness, dealers do this ALL THE TIME.
Listen to this:

My mom had a brand new car, a little over a year old but under warranty. It had a problem so she took it to the dealer (the car would just die in the middle of the road-very scary!)

They claimed to have fixed the car and a week later the same thing happens so back the car goes.
This went on a few more times so one day she leaves the car & says, this it this last time, 'I want this car fixed once & for all'.

My mom gets a phonecall 2 days later at work from the police! My moms car was involved in a 3 car accident on exit 49 on the LIE, we live, and she left the car at the dealership in QUEENS!!!!!

The car hit a school bus and another car & a divider than another car hit hers

The dealership gave her car to one of their employees, a 70 yr old man, to take it to get parts for some other car in Melville!!!!!! My mom's car was almost totalled!!!

My mom is now being sued for the accident when she was at work and my mom was given an almost new car by the dealership.

These car places are messed up, watch out!

Wow Kelly ... I'm so sorry. And that's a Passat, right?
I would give them a piece of my mind. Good Luck!

Re: Listen to what my car dealer did....

Yes it's a passat and to answer the question of who the dealer is, it was Donaldsons in Sayville! They have such a great rep too! I have always brought my car there for everything! I trusted them...but no longer!

Wow! Those stories are scary! A red nail and an accident? That's way too much! Someone's got to stop these people!

Thanks for your responses. I'm not crazy and alone on this one (unfortunately).

These stories make me upset. Being the wife of a car dealer, I hear these kinds of stories all the time. I hope you ladies get these problems fixed and get down the the bottom of this. Please let me know if there is anything you want me to ask my hubby, as he can provide some inside scoop about what goes on in the 'service' sector. He also knows what dealerships to stay away from and what ones are genuinely good.

As for the milage on your car, Kelly, it is mandatory after a car goes through service that is must be road tested. But 100 miles - no way. Find out the story behind that!!

Good Luck ladies. THis should never happen to anyone.

I drive a VW also and have stopped going to both Donaldsons in Sayville and Smithtown VW. They are both a hassle every single time I go there. It's supposed to be a No Hassle lease, but that's all it ever is. I went to Smithtown VW for an oil change a few years ago and they forgot all about me (and there is no decent waiting room) and ended up denting my car. When I pointed it out, they treated me like an airhead and asked if I did it. Both dealerships are horrible!
Give them hell!

Re: Listen to what my car dealer did....

Kelly, that's terrible. There's no excuse for the way the dealership is treating you! It sounds like you have things under control, though. I have no doubt that you/DH will take care of business! Good luck!

The acrylic nail in the back seat story is giving me the willies....eeewwwww...

Re: Listen to what my car dealer did....

chmlenger: Can you Please tell me who is reputable and if you heard anything about Donaldson's? Is the one in Smithtown better? I am closer to Smithtown anyway.

cutielips: Where do you go now? Do you still have your VW?

jennbaby: I can't believe what happened to your mother! Best of luck!

I will hopefully be hearing from the head manager tomorrow morining. I will also be contacting Mr. Donaldson himself and VW. I told the story to my coworkers and one of them told me that they used to live next to mr. donaldson! she told me that she knows where he lives! I guess I can always greet him at the door when he comes home and hand him the baby toys! (LOL) I'll let you know what happens tomorrow!
