Listen to what my car dealer did....

Original post by kelly4

I had my car into the dealer 3 times in the past month. I first brought it into the dealer to have the oil changed, inspection done and my radio to be checked out (for a while, all I was getting was the christmas music station!). Well, we brought it in on Christmas Eve and since they were closed Christmas Day, we picked it up on Thursday (12/27). They said everything was fixed, but when I got it home, the radio didn't work again. So, I called them to tell them. We made another appt. for New Year's Eve. Later that day, I noticed my center consol latch was broken off and missing! I called them back and they told me that they would check into it when I bring my car in.

I brought it in New Year's eve and picked it up that Thurs. since they were closed for New Year's day. They told me that the radio needed a part and to come back on Tuesday (yesterday). They also told me that the latch I noticed was broken and missing wasn't their fault and insuinuated that I did it, but told me that they were not going to start an arguement over a 6 dollar part so they just replaced it for me, no charge~ how wonderful of them!!!! (sarcastic).

Well, I brought it in on Monday night for my appt on tues. I picked it up tues night and everything seemed fine, the radio worked and I was happy. This morning my DH and I drove into work together (we work in the same building and his car's in the shop- long story on that one, but not as f*@#ked up as this!). When I got out and went into the back seat to get my breifcase, I noticed some of what I needed fell onto the floor of my car. I bent down to pick it up and found baby toys! We don't have kids, know friends who have kids, etc!!!!!!! . I asked my DH if they were his for anything and he said 'no, what are they?' Well, after being shocked for a few minutes and baffled, we are thinking that the dealer lent out my car to someone or someone who works at the dealer took my car to pick up their kids and left toys in the back seat! ! WTF?????

Well, were were so ****ed and went straight there after work to confront them. On the way, I noticed that they had clocked my car milage in as 20,015 and out at 20,017. I looked at the milage my car was on now and it read 20,122!!!!! again~ WTF???? We did not drive 100 miles yeaterday from picking up my car to the time we got home from the dealer. We live 5 miles from our job and less than 10 miles from the dealer. How did this happen?

So, my DH goes into the service area and demands to speak with the service manager. They tell us that he just left and that they are front managers. We really wanted to speak with the head of teh whole dept. so we are waiting for a phone call from him when he returns on Friday. If not, we are going back up there to kick some a**!

I feel so violated! What happens if this guy who took my car got into an accident? I goes on my insurance! I checked this one out before we went to see them tonight so I have all the facts straight.

Isn't this horrible?

wish me luck! They are not going to get away with this!

Good Luck tomorrow. Unfortunately, my husband doesn't know much about Donaldson. Hubby's dealership is located on dealer row in Queens, which is probably a hike from where you are.

My sister bought her Passat used from my husband's car dealership, even though they are not a VW dealership (he got it through auction). I guess my point here is that you can basically service your car at any dealership you feel comfortable with, as long as they have mechanics who can work on VW cars. If you feel screwed by Donaldsons or feel you are not getting a straight answer, there is no reason you have to go back. I understand that a lot of times the dealer will tell you the warranty is void if you take your car for service elsewhere, but most of the times that's not true. Just be sure to explore your possibilities and find a car dealer you can trust. I know that sounds like an impossibility, but it's possible (I trust mine, LOL .

If you want any more info, please FM me. Good Luck and keep us all posted.

I think I might try amityville. Thanks yabbobay! That will be a hike for me though!

Well.... my update:

my DH HAD to call the manager since he did not call us like they said he would! The manager got VERY defensive and basically was calling us stupid morons. He told us that the mechanic that worked on my car that day had called in sick (convieneintly) and that he will check with him on Monday and get back to us.... I'm not holding my breath, so we'll be calling him back. We are going to go over his head, regardless of his answer. VW and Donaldson must know about this!

thanks for all your help. I'll let you know how it goes on Monday.

yabbobay... yeah, come to think of it, you're right! I have moved and never updated my address/phone. It's still my parents info. I should go ahead and do that and mention how bad everything is while I'm at it!!!!

thanks!

Re: Listen to what my car dealer did....

Kelly - I can't believe this happened! I bought my jetta from Donaldsons and thought they were soo nice and professional - and then found out later how much they took advantage of me-

Then when i had a problem with cruise control which should be covered by warranty, they claimed that they couldn't find a problem with it - well gee - I must be a moron and not know how to use it-cause it's still broken! (it works for 15 minutes and then shuts off on its own and won't restart) They are so full of crap! Of course, the other problem they did find wasn't covered by the warranty and cost $900 to fix!

I'm glad you let everyone know about this - I was almost considering shopping there again - you reminded me why I shouldnt!

Re: Listen to what my car dealer did....

thanks again ladies....

here's the latest!

the manager called me 5 minutes before I had to walk out the door to get to my job this morning. He basically said that he has no idea what happened to my car and that after talking to his wonderful mechanics, he has come to the conclusion that no one took my car out for a spin... OK moron, then how did the toys get in my back seat???? He basically is blaming me and said that the 100 difference in the milage is probably b/c I had dropped my car off on 12/31 and picked it up on 1/2 but brought it back on 1/6 and they just kept the same milage record from 12/31, so, I was the one to put the milage on the car! I told him to check the slip I had filled in upon dropping off my car on 1/7 to check the milage I filled in (which was 20010 miles) which would prove that they just did not use the same milage check in and out report as the 12/31 serversing. Well, according to them, it's all my fault and I'm just a stupid woman. I told him that this will be taken further and I will get my answers/let people know about this incident!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
