Has anyone bought or considered buying the Litter Robot? It looks like an igloo and it's a self-cleaning litter box. FH really wants to get one but they're $300!!! I just want to find out if it's worth it. It's a high price to pay to be lazy, you know?

Re: Litter Robot?
I own a Littermate self cleaning litter box b/c when I lived with my parents I would travel occassionally for business and my p's refused to scoop the poop. So I gave littermate a try. It wasn't bad and my cat loved to watch it rake up her stuff (it's like an exciting thing for cats I guess). The only thing is as far as saving time cleaning - I found the rake that does the scooping to be a pain in the *ss to clean... worse then scooping a litter box so I stopped using it. Stuff got caked onto the rake. I usually use a plastic liner (cant use a liner in a litter mate b/c the rake gets caught) in my boxes and scoop them daily (we have 3 cats and 2 litter boxes), once a month I take the plastic liner and all the litter in it and toss it in the garbage, wipe down the boxes with clorox disinfecting wipes, dry them off, put in a new liner, fill with litter and the process starts over. With the littermate - I still had to empty the container that the kitty waste goes into every few days and as I said - when it would be time for the monthly scrub down - it was a pain to try to get between the teeth of the rake to get all the caked on goop out. I'd save my money and stick with the traditional methods.

Re: Litter Robot?
Mrs. P--thanks! We originally looked into getting the 'rake' method but found the same thing that you said--the rake gets yucky and it's hard to clean. This this, the Litter Robot, doesn't have a rake though. It's some sort of rotating system? It really looks like a spaceship though!
We have a littermaid. In fact, it is our second one. It is definitely better than the regular litter pan, but it is not perfect.
I heard that the litter robot is better than the littermaid. I considered buying it, but with all the expenses of a new house, I decided the money would be better off spend some place else.
