Live together

Live together

I am just curious, how many of you live with your FH? Because to be honest this is making things much more difficult. We have so many financial obligations that I feel this wedding will never happen. There are times when I wish my parents were helping and they aren't. So lets just say I am frustrated - between rent and car payments and hey lets talk about the electric bill I feel like I am never going to get it all together! Plus I have a 7 year old son whos needs come before mine.
So that's my whine of the day. I need more $$. Anyway wish me luck, I am off to see 2 halls today and pray I get a price that will work into our budget.
Talk to you all when I get back!

Re: Live together

I live with my FH and have been for almost a year and a half before we got engaged. We are also paying for our entire wedding, with no help.
We always took care of our own finances and until we got engaged, we now just started to save money together. $$ is the root to all evil and it is the #1 cause of fights. You have to work together and set an amount that both of you are going to invest in the wedding. You can not let a wedding get in the way of your everyday life. Yes, your lifestyle will change and you might not be able to buy that nice pair of shoes you want, but you need to take care of responsibilities. I would pick a hall first and then go from there. Maybe you can figure out other ways to save money and still be comfortable.
Just take your time and breath. This wedding planning will kill you if you let it. You have to keep remembering the reason why you are doing it and the love you guys have for eachother.

Good luck

Re: Live together

I have to give it to you ladies who live with FH. We both live with our parents and would never be able to have the kind of wedding we will be having if we lived together. We are paying for everything ourselves and it's tough. We could never do it if we didn't live at home.

Re: Live together

We have lived together for almost a year.. and its been nothing but pleasent- no fights not even about money surprisingly..(ive heard horror stories figured this would make or break us!)
but saving for the wedding takes all the 'fun money' out of the equation... luckily we enjoy staying home.. but did have to cancel two vacas to vegas and florida to make sure we had enough money .. We have had a joint savings account in order to put stuff away for the big day.. and its been going good.. I just keep thinking.. house -married- house- married... and that keeps me happy (when I used to be a HUGE shopaholic!!)
If you need help finding a resonable hall I know of a few (in Suffolk... ) FM me...
and you look like you want to get married in the 'off season' (like us.. ) so there should be some good deals to be had...sooo FM me with the amt of people you think of having and what you want to spend and what you can't spend over.. ill help you with some legwork since im on the comptuer ALL day!!
Good luck!!!! We got 69 pp right before may (including cake and ceterpieces... so its def. doable for a resonable amt of money!)

Re: Live together

I own my own apartment and live by myself and FH lives at home. We too are paying for the wedding ourselves. It's tough trying to pay normal bills on top of the wedding ones. It will be worth it in the end - that's what I keep telling myself.

We both live with our parents. I find it stressful enough living at home and paying for the wedding. If give you girls lots of credit who have rent on top of saving for a wedding!

Re: Live together

We actually started saving more money when we moved in together. We had both been living alone and when we got the apartment together our expenses went down significantly. I'm definitely jealous of people who can still live at home and be able to save. Once I went to college I never went back, I don't think that I could deal with my mother if I lived with her anymore.

Re: Live together

My FH and I have live together (only 2 mos), but we have made sacrifices in order to have this wedding. We moved in together to save money because having two seprate household was taking money out of our hands. Now we have less bills, and more for the wedding. But, our wedding budget is only $6,000. That may be helping us.

Re: Live together

my FH has been living in my apartment since we pretty much started dating.. and I was paying the rent alone.. he would contribute here and there and pay the electric bill or my credit card bill but didn't start officially sharing the rent until September of last year.. We both have loans out that are up there and we are paying for about 90% of the wedding ourselves.. I used to shop all the time and I haven't in awhile, and I paid off my credit cards and pay cash for everything now, so if I want something and I don't have enough money, I don't get it.. I also just got a 2nd job bartending on the weekends just so that I can use that money for the wedding and some for paying off the bills.. FH works 2 jobs and is practically killing himself, but we are making ends meet and we are comfortable.. we just have to suck it up for now

Re: Live together

I moved with FH and his parents last May a week after my birthday after having a horrible falling out with my parents. Its nice to not have to pay rent...but with other bills looming over us (we're both still in school)..the pressure of a big expensive wedding became too much for us...so we're having a destination wedding

We've been living together over 4 years! About 4 months after we starteddating we moved in together! I think it was a great decision! I can't imagine if we got married first and then lived together, things would've been difficult!

Wow...I definitely feel a little spoiled and selfish right about now. My FH and I both live at home with our parents. Both sets of parents pay for a lot of our expenses including car insurance and other stuff. I'm in school full time and will be graduating college in May with my teaching liscense. Right now I dont work. My FH works full-time and goes to grad school at night. We are not saving much right now but that will change in May when I graduate and can work full time. At the same time my parents are paying for my entire wedding. Im not paying for a thing. I guess I always assumed everyone was in the same boat since I was raised around that tradition. Well, I think I need to call them right about now and thank them for everything. I am defintiely very very blessed.

i live with my FH and it's hard trying to pay for the wedding alone. On top of it, I'm trying to squash all of my outstanding debt with my measly paycheck.... Oh and did I mention that FH doesn't work b/c he's a fulltime student!! it's hard but it'll be well worth it!

We have been living together for 7 years and I am paying for a majority of the wedding while he takes care of the bills (rent, phone, electric.) We both help each other out when we can.
I hate the fact that money causes fights. Money is EVIL!!!!

I give all u girls that live together with your FH a lot of credit. I do not live with my FH in fact we both live with each other's parents, and i still stress about money. We have been saving a lot of money living apart. We are paying for the hall ourselves, but my parents are paying for the other stuff, like flowers, photos, video, church, decorations, etc. his parents are actually giving us a down payment for a house, so we are blessed.

You are very blessed. But no you don't sound selfish to me at all. But calling them to thank them would be a wonderful thing.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have wanted to wait to live together, we have been for 6 years but man does it shrink ones bank account!
On a good note I found a hall today and I am dragging him back there tonight to book it!

Re: Live together

I moved in with fh in May. He has lived on his own for several years and generally my expenses are about the same as when I lived in a house share near school. We don't have a huge wedding budget but I wouldn't want to spend that much on the wedding any way.
