Live trees?

Live trees?

This year, we decided to get a live tree (root ball and all!). The tree can't be in the house longer that 2 weeks and afterwards you can plant it!
I was wondering if anybody else has done this?
We are going to get a new one every year and plant it (with a tag- Christmas 2003) I think it will be neat to have all of our Christmas trees for our kids to see in the future. Helping the environment

Thats a great idea...but you need to have a forest like space to plant them since a tree needs 3x the depth and 3x the width of the rootball to do well.

Well actually we do have a forest! We are planning on planting them on his father's property, next to the vineyard. There is a clearing next to the area that goes down to the lake. We got a white spruce this year and plan to get a different kind every year.
I realize after I posted this that if you lived in the city, this wouldn't be a viable option
Ah, country living

Sounds great, but what are you using to dig that hole for the tree? With a large tree like that, you should have one of those machines ....I'm forgetting the name,...but manually digging a hole that large will be very very tiring!

I know Kathi.
They have all of that equipment, tractors, Bobcats, etc for their 90 acres. FH built a bluff and used that machine to dig out of the cliff and create the bluff point.
I would not want to dig it by hand

I think that is an awesome, awesome idea! I'm such a sentimental nut .. that this would be something I'd do too, if I had the capability.

Very Cool!!!!
