Re: Living Arrangements
I'd love to buy something, but sadly, I think we will need to rent for at least a year to try and save again.

I am a good saver and we almost put a bid down on a house in March...but or mortagage with taxes was going to be $2900 a month with a big chunck of money down! this was without other bills or food money! It seems ridiculous! But FH and I have great jobs and we both have money in the bank and it still seems impossible!
I would be curious to know for those who are able to buy a house now and plan a wedding, are you getting help financially for either the house or the wedding expenses?

Re: Living Arrangements
we're currently in the process of buying a house. It is going to be really hard the first year or two, but renting is SO expensive too so we want our money to go towards a mortgage at least.
The only reason we can afford this at all is because we are putting only 5% down and we both have lived at home since college

Re: Living Arrangements
We rent now, and we'll probably continue to rent for a while - at least long enough to save some more $ for a down payment.

Re: Living Arrangements
We rent together now, and after the wedding we'll still be in grad school. So we won't move until after we both graduate. But, if we both do a postdoc after, that only lasts a year or two, so we wouldn't buy a house until we both have permanent jobs.

Re: Living Arrangements
We are going to rent too... at least for one year... and then buy. I really want to buy now, but I don't want to struggle financially during the first year or two of our marriage.

FH and I bought a house together in April and have been living together since. In answer to 'how do we do it' I have no idea

We'll be renting for 2 years, then hopefully we'll have enough saved and we'll buy our house..
