Two big things that kill me: 1) people in my building who burn everything when they cook. The smoke either causes the entire floor to reek or it sets of the fire alarm (not a big deal but when you have to run down 21 flights of stairs, it's not fun).
2) a family moved onto my floor and have a child who is about 2/3. Every single Saturday and Sunday morning, their child is screaming in front of our door at 7 am. O M G - all of you get away from the door.

Re: Living in an apartment - pet peeves
FH's apt is a basement so we have unique problems
Having the apt smell like the neighbor's cooking!
Having the guy upstairs' wahser/dryer outside the apt door, which is practically IN the bedroom
Bugs, LIZARDS, Spiders
Few windows for light and air

The guy who lives upstairs gets up every morning at 5:15. I don't know if he is exercising or what but some mornings it sounds like he is tap dancing.

Re: Living in an apartment - pet peeves
1. TOO SMALL 2. NO PETS ALLOWED (I need a kitty ) 3. ELEVATOR DYSFUNCTIONS EVERY OTHER WEEK 4. MAILBOX ALL THE WAY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BUILDING 5. PARKING SPACES BIG ENOUGH FOR THE CAR ITSELF BUT NO ROOM TO OPEN THE DOORS.

We live in a basement too and my biggest pet peeve is that they kids run races through the house... at 7:30 in the morning!! It seems like the only room they like to play in (which is like a dining room) is RIGHT above our bed!!!

Re: Living in an apartment - pet peeves
the people who live upstairs don't walk, they stomp.
they have a grandson or nephew or something...he RUNS back and forth when he's over
the daughter likes to play music, LOUD---which i can deal with...except her room is over our daughter's...and she does it at like 10pm...which wakes her up.
-------------------
when i lived in NC, the son of the lady above me was home alone often (he was like 18-20) and i suppose his room was over mine...one night he was watching porn rather loudly with the window open!!! i cracked up. i could also hear his xbox (or whatever it was) everytime he played it....and he was a jumper if he won!

My upstairs neighbors have a toddler that stomps/runs. I know it's a kid, but this is at 10pm. Put him/her to bed already!!!!
The tv/stereo sounds from downstairs. It has gotten much better though.

We have this too... its like STOMP STOMP STOMP CRASH then WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Or he is rolling something around on the floor and they have no carpeting. FH said the other day he was making so much noise and crashing around he thought they were going to fall through the ceiling- he said he could have sworn he heard floor boards cracking. This goes on ALL NIGHT EVERY NIGHT.
I don't think we are going to be there for more than a year, its just way to much noise.

Re: Living in an apartment - pet peeves
Loud sex!!!
When I lived in NY, my key got stuck in my apartment door once. I kept banging on the door, trying to wake up my roommate, but boy was she a heavy sleeper! So, I'm trying to turn the lock or get the key out - either one would've been progress - when the neighbors came home a little tipsy. They must've been doing it up against the door or something!!
It is really difficult to try to get the key out of the door, band on the door and yell for your roommate AND cover your ears all at the same time!!!

wow! you all have a lot of grievances!
I guess we're lucky.... my only complaint is that the apt is too small for us.

I lived in an apartment once and I had a crack head for a neighbor (literally). He came knocking on our door at 4 am asking DH to borrow $$? Are you effin kidding me? Glad we moved after that. That's what you get for being nice to people.

Re: Living in an apartment - pet peeves
We have a stomper upstairs from us also...it is as if she's in a hurry to get from one end of the apartment to the other - and the apartment isn't big to begin with. She must not have carpeting because when she comes home from work or from going out we hear her heels tapping on the floors and then we hear her take her shoes off and then stomp, stomp, stomp. Then there's the pothead down the hall - who, I kid you not, smokes pot all day and all night. It reeks! Then there's the smell of all sorts of foods from the restaurant downstairs. Our apt smells like cooking grease and our bathroom smells like bacon in the morning. My list goes on and on - I can't wait to get a house!

We're not renewing our lease
We're fighting the late fee.
The building next door called the police on the illegal construction, so that seesm to have stopped
Or anniversary gift that vanished still upsets me when I walk by the mail cubby holes & see other people's packages. I don't know if it was the mailman or soemoen from the building.
On a day to day basis it is a nice place to live, but the mangement company that took over last year s ucks.
And so far, it beats the roofers breaking into my apartment & then the managment company giving us really short notice on not renewing our lease, in my old building.

Oh you mean like having your landlord come into your apartment everyday for no reason?
