Living under big power lines??!!!

An aquaintance recently bought a very nice home in Ronkonkoma - right under these huge power lines! That can't be good for your health, right?
(Let me say I am basing this on nothing other than a feeling :) - I have no ground to stand on, it just would feel weird to me)

well she must live near me -- we live a few blocks from the power lines... I dont know that they cause any problems-- I mean -- we all live very close to power lines of some sort... If its not one thing that will kill us -- ( pollution, ozone) its another ...LOL

Being a nurse, I have heard in many lectures from radiologist that yes they can cause some harm. The 'large' power lines to send off a larger # of radioactive waves (other wise known as 'radiation'). So living in a closer proximity to these areas puts you at higher risk for exposure. Each day we all are exposed to a certain amount of radiation, but not that much when living so close to large power plants or electrical lines. In studies done, cancer is more commonly found. Just a word to the wise, not trying to scary anyone here.

Sorry Elle - I don't mean any offense to the neighborhood, as a matter of fact I really like it there and am interested in buying nearby. But the lines made me curious.

Re: Living under big power lines??!!!

We looked at/drove by LOTS of houses near big power lines...they seem to be everywhere out here in Suffolk!

There's so much conflicting information out there-we couldn't make sense of it. Do a Google search for 'living near power lines' or 'EMF' and you'll see what I mean.

If you do decide to further research, just be aware of who sponsered the study.

Good luck!
