LIW-- Why do I keep getting censored?!?!?!

LIW-- Why do I keep getting censored?!?!?!

Hi LIW,

Why is the title under my name continuously being put to '~' instead of my URL, curliegirl.com, which is what it was before?

Is it considered 'advertising' again? Puh-lease.

If I didn't love Ron and Liz, i'd suggest a lrge sale protest..like we all make curliegirl.com our avatar thing, and if that didn't work, we'll put it in every post

I don't know why they did it

Try
curliegirl dot com

And if Ron or Liz do not like you advertising for another site on their site, they will tell you.....but up until then, that should work.

Unfortunately some of the immature class have decided to put URLs in their titles to, well lets say some undesirable websites. Thus we have disallowed the placing or URLs altogether in the titles (URLs are replaced with a ~). As far as advertising sites for commercial gain that also is not allowed. If we allow one to do it then many will (has happened before) and the focus of planning a wedding is lost. Also, unfair to the advertisers that support this site. So, if anyone would like to advertise on the site then they can contact us directly.

I could see if you were selling wedding gowns or advertising a DJ/Limo/Flower service but you're not! Your site (which looks great by the way saw it the other night!) or business have nothing to do with weddings!

Ron/Liz - please let her put it back!
ETA: I've yet to see anyone post an 'undesirable' website under their chat name... Maybe I just wasn't looking.

That's because it was removed immediately. And the poster bannerd.

Here's the concern with posters advertising. And like I stated this has happened before so I am speaking from experience. Thus now we nip it in the bud so to speak. First, there are services advertised on the site that aren't wedding related - I.E. Real Estate and mortgages. Second, once someone sees another marketing their service or product on the boards then many others want to do the same. The boards then become filled with advertisements. To keep this from happening we have to make the rule that there is no advertising for commercial gain. BTW - a few past brides who have started businesses are now advertisers on the site. This keeps the topics wedding related and everything running smooth. Thanks for your understanding.

Thanks! I think it does too!

Remember, nothing is perfect.
That is why we need to have guidelines so we are all on the same page and no one has an unfair advantage.

LIW - you guys/gals do great work! I've watched this site develop over the years .. going back probably to 2000-2001 when I found this site .. the traffic now compared to then is unreal!!

Guidelines are lousy .. but they become necessary .. and it's unfortunate when you're put on the spot to judge and explain your decisions. But, I for one wanted to step in and say thanks for the hard work, and I can understand your position. Keep up the great work!!

While I respect your point (after all, it is your website!), I think it is slightly hypocritical... 'To keep this from happening we have to make the rule that there is no advertising for commercial gain.' Well then, under your own rules you should delete all posts that are brides selling their leftover wedding goods, announcing puppies that need adopting, etc... is all of that NOT advertising?!? All I did was post a URL under my name. Please explain because I honestly don't get it.

Not to be against you, Lori, but it's differnt to advertise a few tiems here and there, or to announce a puppy for adoption because they're not commercial things. it's normal sortof abrter stuff, it's not an actual business, which is what i think the difference is. And that's why vendors can't post on the brde's boards because then we'd just get flooded with ads from all kinds of people. I'm not saying you're doing something wrong, but they have to draw the line somewhere.

ETA: Not that I have anything to do with it, it's just the way I see it. Also there are people who advertise on here who have bsuiness that aren't strictly wedding related (who also sell accessories, etc), and they pay to advertise on the site. I don't know what the answer is, but your site is getting a lot of hits now

Mary, thanks for your reply LOL! the last part was funny... Let me just note that what I did was not advertising, I never said 'Buy my stuff!' ... All I did was post my URL. I still think its a bunch of cr@p, but that's JMO. Also, it would have been nice if LIW had at least sent me an FM or gave a heads up that they would be changing my title or at least a reason as to why they did it, rather than just remove it randomly.
