Does anyone have any ideas for a 'local' destination wedding - anything about 2-3 hours away? My fiance really wants one on a tropical island and I don't want to go far because I want everyone there so as a compromise our friends suggested having an affordable one not too far away so that everyone can make it. I just want to find something that has a lot to do in the area so that my guests will stay the whole weekend. Otherwise the only other way to bribe him to stay home is with Flower Fields - we both went and looked yesterday and we loved it! Thanks!

Is Montauk enough of a 'Destination'? There's plenty to do out there and it's not far to drive. We looked at the Crow's Nest, and they have a whole wedding weekend there.

I went to a couple of wedding upstate in Ithaca or around the area and they were beautiful. FH actually wanted to get married there, he went to school there, but I thought my family wouldn't go for it. It might be a little more than 2-3 hrs away but the cost for you would be cheaper and if you do it along the water, it is beautiful!

NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND ! my friend just got married at ocean cliff and it was so much fun. we all had such a great weekend
I stayed at The Inn in Mystic CT and a couple was married there....gorgeous! Its where humphrey bogart and lauren bacall honeymooned! Its a beautiful mansion with grounds in the back...on a lake! Guests can stay at the mansion or the motel at the bottom of the hill..plus theres tons of other hotels down the road
I agree about Newport, RI. Its amazing there! I really wanted to have my wedding there at Belcourt Castle but FIL's said NO. Awesome

Block Island in Rhode Island is beautiful i love going there! My friend got married there & the weekend was wonderful!

shelter island!!! i went there for a weding a few years back- it was AMAZING!!! Quaint little church in a country like setting and then reception at a waterfront hotel (there are 2 hotel that do weddings; ones more modern the other beautiful w/rustic elegant feel). All your guests can get rooms to stay and the little ferry ride over makes the feeling of 'getting away.' Good luck!!!
