Re: locks of love

i haven't done it yet, but i've been growing my hair to do it, although now i'm going to wait til after the wedding cause it would be too short if i cut it now. There was a post about this before though.. so i'm sure someone can recommend a salon who does it!

I did this. I was going in for the newlywed chop, but wasnt sure how short I was going to go. I went to a salon in Oceanside, Nial Martin Salon on Oceanside Rd, near Dairy Barn. The girl who cut my hair (Dawn) asked if I wanted to donate it, she said it had to be at least 12'. We did just that! I do not regret it one bit. I had 12' cut off, and my hair was STILL passed my shoulders!

I just donated mine a few weeks ago. I paid for my haircut though the website mentions doing a search for locks of love salon with the city and state and see if that works. I'd also call a few places and ask. I asked my salon in Queens a few years back and they said they had a special after hours time they did free haircuts for people who want to donate. Good Luck !

They used to list it on their website. I've done it twice. I'll probably do it soon, I was letting it grow out for my wedding.

I know my FMIL is doing this but, she is waiting for over 10 inches of hair, so its not too short on her, I just don't know where she is doing this. I'll find out.

i don't know salons in NY that do it, but i'm pretty sure that if you go onto locks of love's website, it will give you a list of participating salons. i did this a few years ago in AZ and will be doing it again when the weddings over (and gladly, because i'm sick and tired of my stupid long hair)!!!

and yes, you can donate colored hair. all the info is on the lock of love website

Re: locks of love

i've done this four times! my hair grows almost a foot a year. wherever you go, they can do it. just look at the LOL website to make sure you're following the guidelines and bring a ziplock with you to the place. one place even ended up doing it for free. the last time i did it, i organized a group of my students to do it too and we got awesome cuts from a fancy salon in bellmore for free!
