Locks of Love? NEED INFO!

Locks of Love? NEED INFO!

My cousin was diagnosed with uterine cancer yesterday. She is 39.

I want to do something. I can't donate blood b/c we're different types, I can't help with the day-to-day work b/c they live in the Poconos. But I have to do something.

She's starting chemo in the next few weeks. Is there a way that I can donate my hair? Can I go through Locks of Love but donate to her? Any other suggestions?

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks, girls.

Locks of Love donates the hair to make wigs for children with cancer. Perhaps you can go to a wigmaker and they could use your hair to create a wig for your cousin.

I'm sorry that you are going through this. My stepmother passed away 7 years ago from breast cancer. I know how you must be feeling. Be strong for her.

My heart goes out to you and your family.

I have donated my hair and will donate again right after the wedding, but as the post above said Locks for Love makes wigs for children with cancer...

Also... your hair will not be enough for a wig... I believe it takes 4-5 peoples hair to make 1 wig... I think thats what I heard.

Maybe you can get a group of friends together to all donate for your cousin.

Best of luck... to you and your family.

Omg Rachel. I am so so sorry about your cousin... I don't know anything about locks of love, but I know Lauren has done it a few times, so I'll ask her if she knows what the deal is...

I was up early today...

Pantene Beautiful Lengths donates wigs to cancer patients. The above poster was correct; it takes 5-6 donations to make one wig. You need eight inches of length (straightened) in a ponytail.

If you're going to do the 'newlywed chop' anyway, this is definitely worth checking out.

Thanks again, girls.

I am SO sorry about your cousin.

It's awesome that you want to help her out, but (coming from someone who's been through cancer with at least 5 family members)don't make any huge decisions just yet... Many patients today don't lose their hair with chemo, so I'd first wait to see if she does in fact actually start losing her hair. I'm sure she will simply appreciate your love and support in the meantime.

It's so awesome that you want to help out - looks like there are some good leads above if you do want to donate your hair!

I'm so sorry to hear this! My heart goes out to you and your family.

I have donated three times to locks of love, but you don't control who gets your hair. Maybe go to a wig maker and see what they can do?

Two very special people to me had/have breast cancer. We have chosen the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Society as our charity through weddingchannel.com. They donate to our charity every time a gift is purchased for us

Your love and support is priceless. I wish your cousin love and stregnth during this time.
