Should I have my fittings done on LI where my Mom lives and where the wedding will be or should I have them done in DC where I live? I can't seem to figure out which would be best.
Thanks, Sandy

Re: logistical question - where to have my fittings?
How often do you come home? I'd say have them in DC where you are, especially if you have a lot of alterations. If something goes wrong, you have the seamstress right there. I definitely vote for DC.

Re: logistical question - where to have my fittings?
I planned from Texas and bought my dress here and had all my fittings then fedexed it to my mom's house when all the fittings were complete. I would vote to do them where you live, then you won't have to worry about them making an alteration and you not being there to try it on again until you are back in NY.

DC...makes more sense than having to travel if you need extra fittings, having to fit in a tight schedule, etc.

Re: logistical question - where to have my fittings?
so i guess my follow-up question would be....
i found the dress at a bridal salon in N. Va. i also received a quote for the dress on netbride for $150 less. should i pay the difference and get it at the salon or get it from netbride and find a local seamstress?
sorry for all these crazy questions.... planning from far away requires so many extra details!!!

Does the salon price include alterations? If yes, then I would get it from a salon, but if no, then from netbride, if shipping won't be too too mcuh.

Re: logistical question - where to have my fittings?
Sandy, Did you go to Lady Hamilton, Priscilla or Hannelores?
I agree, get it from the salon if it includes the alterations, but it probably does not. Also, tell the salon that you can get it for cheaper. It might seem akward, but they often will match you. If you saw it at Lady Hamilton, they definitely will match you. I haggled with them on shoes and veil!!
anyway, i actually did it the opposite way (bought the dress in NY and did fittings there). I did that because my shop only needed 2 fittings before the big day and then one pick up. So i took the week off before, had my 2d fitting on Tuesday and then picked up on Thursday. So it was steamed and nice and ready to wear for the weekend and i didn't have to worry about finding a place to steam it etc. after shlepping it around.
BUT, you could totally get it in DC and bring it with you or mail it up. I know AlisonMT is doing that. and Lady Hamilton in N. Va. is so much less expensive than NY!!!!!!!!! that is where i bought my veil.
Good luck!

Re: logistical question - where to have my fittings?
I went to Hannelores and Lady Hamilton but ended up finding my dress at a small shop down the road from my house (Bridal Visions). While I wasn't crazy about the shop (only allowed me to be there for one-hour appointment), the dress was stunning and their alterations are capped at $250. Unless I can find a seamstress in N. Va. that won't cost a fortune, I may just get it there. Any thoughts?

The advantage of getting alterations in NY would be not needing to travel with the finished gown, and not needing to worry about getting it pressed for wrinkles. Isn't being a long-distance bride such a pleasure?
