so, i know in general the name Lolita tends to have a negative conductation (sp?)... after having it as a nickname for years now I'm used to it. BUT i have to say, since i have been called it now for some years (yes, people really do call me it, or 'Lo' ofr short) anyway, i've grown to love the name. And i would love to name my daughter it. (i love Lola for short) But since society has their own opinion of it, do you think thats a bad idea? Even though I love it, i would never want a daughter to be ridiculed. Just wondering your opinions on this (I'm bored!) Thanks eta: i also like the names Olivia and/or Stella

Well actually even though lolita doesn't MEAN slut...it IS associated with it!
And i wouldn't even want my daughters name associated with PROVOCATIVE YOUNG GIRL either
Like someone else said...it is YOUR nickname ...Your daughter should have her own!

Re: 'lolita'
I like Lola ! I think it is a great name! I would even have it on my girl name list for the fact that is doesn't go with our last name
So Emma it will be (if i one day have a girl that is)

Re: 'lolita'
its weird how twisted a name can be!!! it reallly came from Nabakovs book and it was about a young girl, older man. Then Amy Fisher came out and the same thing, but now its all about being slutty and stuff. Strange. its weird how a name can bring up so many thoughts! If you think about it! Now I'm trying to think of more names like that.
....Jezabel???

Re: 'lolita'
Growing up I hated my name because I got teased for it. 'hey Laurel where's Hardy (of course your generation doesn't even think of Laurel and Hardy when you hear Laurel. It wasn't until I was grown (30) that I started to like my name. Now everyone calls my Laurie and I don't get to use Laurel much. My Mom always had a good reply when I came home crying from school because someone teased me about it. She said today it was your turn to be teased, tomorrow it will be someone else's. If you let it bother you then they win, if you don't then you are the winner. I have used that with my kids too. Look at all the boys named Jack. I love that name yet they will have their share of teasing too. If kids are going to tease (and they will) they will find anything to tease someone about!

Well, I heard of somebody that has the name Jack Hoff, so I could see why that person would be teased...
