On Thursday, I'm driving down to NC for a wedding (thankfully I'm a passenger for this trip and I don't have to drive for any of the 13 hours there and back).
This isn't my longest drive though - when I was a kid, Dad thought it was a good idea to drive us down to Disney Now I said all of that to ask:
What was your longest car trip? Beyond the regular music/reading, what did you do to keep from killing yourself and the other people in the car? Because I don't mind being in a car for a couple of hours but 13 is really testing my sanity...

Re: Long azz drives
when i was a kid, we used to go to new hampshire every summer for 2 weeks....6 hour drive. with 3 kids and luggage and fishing poles in the back of a station wagon...fun!
i thought that was long until i drove to ohio once with an ex and his grandparents for a wedding...weird and looooooooooooooooong drive...pennsylvania NEVER ends....
but the longest was the drive to niagara falls last year...it took 8 hours...fh drove the whole time, but is nothing but highway...so this was me the whole time

Re: Long azz drives
By far, the longest drives are the ones we make to GA. DH, Mr. Blue and I...for 12+ hours each way!
We have gone 3 times so far...and are going back in a few weeks.
Thinking about it makes me want to scream. My poor DH drives alone the entire time (we don't stop unless it's to use the rest rooms). Thank God for radar detectors!! We went for Thanksgiving and then Christmas week...
Why does it take you 12 hours to go to NC? Is that roundtrip? It must be, 'cause it takes us about 6 hours to ge there, I think I answered my own question!!
ETA: As a kid the longest was from NY to Chicago. And it was also the dumbest. We drove 18+ hours each way to visit my brother...upon arriving we slept, woke up, ate, then left because it was a 'weekend' trip so we only saw my brother for 5 hours tops!!!

Re: Long azz drives
Longest - Myrtle Beach. We had three cars going down (bunch of friends) - so we amused ourselves with walkie talkies so we could talk between cars. Also some changing of cars (in traffic!) and other escapades!
Also I went to college in Maine, so that was a tedious drive like four times a year. I had any car ride over 2 hours

As a kid we took a month & drove clear across the country in a van....from NY to CA...yet it truly wasn't bad and we stopped whenever we found something interesting.
As an adult my longest drive was back from FL when Hurricane Frances hit 2 years ago...not fun.

I want to do that with FH, but he doesn't want to - probably because he realizes he would be stuck doing most of the driving. Plus there is that whole work issue

a van is better than what we did, we took 7 weeks and drove from LI to California and back but we did it in a Nissan Sentra. It was still my most favrorite childhood memory - one that I would trade for nothing.

Re: Long azz drives
Longest was from NY to VA Beach. 8 hours there and 8 hours back. We drove over night, so it wasn't too bad and we took turns driving.
However, anything over 2 hours in the car and FH and I argue about 90% of the time!! (Which happens pretty often between drives to Mohegan Sun, Atantic City, DC, & visiting his family in NH)

Really? DH and I looooove long drives because we get along the best when it's just the two of us in the car...I'm the navigator (he never lets me drive) and I give him directions, get the cooler re-filled with ice, get his Red Bulls, water and snacks and I'm charge of the music. I never fall asleep and make sure we always have something to talk about so that he doesn't fall asleep. Our 'team' rocks at trips!!

We went to Clear Water, FL with my aunt, cousin and grandmother one year for Thanksgiving. It wasn't too bad. We stopped overnight in GA
I used to drive back and forth to school in Central PA all the time. I preferred to do it by myself because I didn't stop unless I absolutely had to. I hate frequent peers!!!!!

I didn't mind the drive to and from Central PA but I liked it because I was usually alone or with a good friend. Not my parents!

I once made the trip with a GOLDFISH!!
It wasnt' so bad when it was just me and my dad. But if my mom was in the car it was easily 1 1/2 hours longer!!!!

Re: Long azz drives
We drive down to my mom's in SC with our dogs about twice a year and we drive straight - but with 87 stops for the dogs to have water and go potty. DH will nap if I am driving but I cannot sleep in a car, so I'm pretty much bored and insane (and getting slobbered on or full of dog hair, etc).
DH's brother and his family (wife, 3 kids and his IL's) drive down to Disney once a year and I think they used to stay over a night when the kids were little.

Not the longest, but the most trying was when DH and I brought up the furniture I was storing at my parent's house in TN. 14hrs. in a U-Haul is not fun!!!

Re: Long azz drives
3,987 miles. We did a 17 day trip from NY to TX, from TX to SC and back home. It was awesome. We did ALOT of talking, listening to music, watching for 3.5 million times the entire Maisy Collection (we had the baby with us) and played games with the baby. We did alot of stops (usually one every two hours except for when the baby was aleep because we'd do more driving to make up time). We just kept focused on the next destination and how nice it was going to be when we got there. It was the best time of my life. I hadn't seen my sister in almost three years, she never saw my baby (in person) and we were excited to get to spend time with my sister's family and go to Myrtle. It was amazing to see so much of the country - to see how things are done and how people live in other parts. We were also filled with fear and dread because we were about 12 to 24 hours behind Katrina from TX to SC. We were running right through Mississippi when it struck. The thing that sticks out in my mind most about the trip was seeing a cottonfield for the first time. The closest I had ever been to one was watching Gone with the Wind. It was cool.

Only because he drives like an old man at times and occasionally tailgates people. That irks me to death!! (Plus he never lets me drive with him in the car unless he's really exhausted). But I do have to say, we have gotten much better at it over time with more trips under our belts!
