Hi Everyone!! My best friend just got engaged and asked me to be in her wedding!! I'm so excited. She lives in Oklahoma now and the wedding will be there. Since I can't be there to help her with planning and stuff, what can I do to help out from so far away???

Re: Long distance bridesmaid.
2 of my bridesmaids live far away. And one is getting married and I am her BM also. The beauty of the internet is that you can still offer to do some online research. There is lots of good information out there!

Re: Long distance bridesmaid.
Just be supportive and try to keep in touch.
I have one friend thats OOS, i've known her longer than any of my other friends so it felt right to ask her even though I don't see her as often. My sister has been constantly complaining that she hasn't been any help in planning and never responds to emails. The funny thing is that I told my sis that she doesn't check her email, she needs to pick up the phone.
There's still a while so i'm not worried.

The best thing any BM can do, long distance or not, is to be supportive and keep in touch on a regular basis. Ask the bride how involved she wants you to be and what tasks she wants you to handle. You don't want to come across as uncaring but you don't want to be too pushy either, it's best to discuss her expectations and take it from there.

MY Matron of Honor is in Ok, and we talk alot on the phone & e-mail... She's coming to NY in July, and I'm waiting to pic dresses then, I really want her to have a say in this area, and I'm waiting to 'offically' ask the BP in July too...
Have you planned a trip to OK yet?

Re: Long distance bridesmaid.
i live in AZ and was just in my friend's wedding in VA, plus I'm getting married in NY and ALL of my BMs live in 6 different states! (FL,SC,NJ,NY,GA & NV!) It's definitely possible to do stuff for your friend, thanks to the beauty of the internet. For my friend, she had two in-town BMs and 3 OOS BMs and it was us 3 OOS BMs that planned everything about the bridal shower and bachelorette party, both of which we threw for her in VA. And we did a damn good job! As long as you can be slightly inovative in your thinking and stay in touch with the other BMs, they'll find things that you can do. Don't worry and have fun!!

I haven't planned a trip yet. I don't know if I'll be able to go out there except for the wedding. I want to do something special since I might not be at her shower and bachelorette party. I was thinking maybe a bride care package or something.

One of my BMs was out of state and she came to see the dresses, but did not come to my shower or my bachelorette party and really didn't ask me much about anything unless I brought up the info- it was disappointing as she is one of my very good friends and a childhood friend- I am glad she was a BM , but wish she would have been more involved in some way- so my suggestion is, ask her whats going on- try to care about the little things that lots of people dont really care about lol- sending a care package would be really nice-stay supportive and just be there to listen to her when she is stressing out- offer ideas where you can, and contact whoever is planning the shower-MOm or MOH and try to do something-invites/invite list/...something-
You sound like a really good friend-the bride is lucky to have you!
