Long-distance engagement

Long-distance engagement

I’m just wondering if anyone else out there is experiencing a long-distance engagement?

My FH is Swedish and even though he lived with me in NY for about two or three years, he’s currently back in Stockholm. It’s been really tough, especially picking out things and just hoping he’ll like them! I already booked the RH without him having seen it, which he says is okay and I think I know his taste enough to know that he’ll like it, but still…now I’m beginning to look into all the details of the vendors, and I wish he was here to get his opinion in.

Anyone else been through this or going through this? How do you handle it?

well....it's no stokholm, but DF has lived in NJ the entire time i've known him...it still ***** bc i've been doing almost all of the wedding planning on my own or with my mom, and if he's around he helps, but most of the time i'm on my own. It stinks even more now bc my grandpa is in the hospital and not doing so good and yep.......all by myself for the most part except weekends.

Aw! I’ll send some well wishes your way for your grandfather.

It’s really hard doing it on your own, isn’t it?! All the RHs I went to kept asking where my FH was, as if they were worried I was just getting married to myself or something.

FH and I had a long-distance relationship for 5 years...although, there were only 4 months a year where we were on different continents...and that s u c k e d so I can imagine a long-distance engagement being even worse.

But if your FH is anything like mine he probably wouldn't have been much of a help anyway FH is too laid back with stuff like this and it usually comes down to hims aying something like 'whatever you want'

Lol, everyone's been telling me I'm better off without him around to meddle with my choices! I can appreciate that, but I also want to make sure he doesn't come over and is terrifed by what I've decided to go with...he has very sensitive Swedish sensibilites. I hope our sense of style is similar enough to avoid that!

I think as long as you know his tastes you'll be ok. Even though FH says the only thing that really matters is that we are getting married, I still felt like its his day too so I revised my original ideas to suit him better (I originally wanted our colors to be pink and brown but those are 2 of FHs least favorite colors lol). And I don't know anythign about Swedish weddings, but if they are anything like German/ Austrian, they are WAY different than American (especially in the LI/NYC area) weddings...so you may want to include some Swedish culture or something as well to make him and his family feel more comfortable.
