I just got engaged Jan 10, 04, and we're looking forward to a Dec 2006 wedding. Are there any other long engagement brides out there? Why did you decided to do it? Was it a good idea? How are you handling the wait?
We got engaged Dec 2003 and are getting married in June 2005. The wait for the wedding is NOT the bad part because you have planning and stuff like that. It was the 4 years we lived together and me having to wait for the proposal!!! (Ok still some hidden hostility to that)

I got engaged in Sept. 2003, and my wedding is May 2005. I didn't want a long engagement, we wanted an Oct. 2004 wedding, however my parents werent' in the country, and weren't going to return till Xmas time. So I didnt feel comfortable booking a hall without them. (since they were paying for it) So, I'd love to get married sooner, however finally I learned and whats helping me hang in there, is wedding are soooo expensive, and the only way we can pay for everything is with a year and half engagment.!
So don't feel bad...u'll have more time to plan, and save!!!

I'm so excited to plan, I'm gettign ideas, but it seems so early and I alternately get comments like 'Why are you waiting so long?' and 'what's the rush?' about my planning.
Haha. I waited 4.5 years for my proposal, but we're not living together.

I will be engaged 2.5 years by the time we get married. I just did all my research and booked the hall right away and then waited on everything else till this year. Sometimes it feels like forever and sometimes it feels like it is right around the corner. Also the one thing i hated was oh you have so much time, so I would just say things book fast and I want the best so I have to book early.

My engagement is 2 years. It gave us extra time to save money since we are paying for it ourselves! I didn't start planning until about 1 year in advance. The time is going by very very very fast. If you start looking now and book some stuff now, at least you will get the 2004 prices!

Yah. We're both graduating college this year, so money was the main factor in our decision. And I plan to book the hall, the ceremony and the photographer this year to get exactly what I want, and the 2004 prices. I'm just SO impatient.

i got engaged on feb 13, 2002 and my wedding is in oct. 2005. i had more than a three year engagement. it seemed like it would take forever, but it goes by so fast.

I got engaged in Dec 2002 and I am getting married May 2004. We got comments in the beginning about waiting so long but now we are less than 3 months away and the time just flew by! Enjoy it!!

We got engaged in October 2003 and we are getting married in September 2005. A lot of people have commented on the long engagement but I actually like it - and time does go by really fast! We chose to have a long engagement because we are paying for the entire wedding on our own and need the time to save. Your time will be occupied planning and it'll fly - believe me. Plus, you have plenty of time to put care into all of the little details and price shop!

We got engaged November '02 and are getting married in November '04, 2 years exactly to the weekend that we got engaged. Some family members asked why we were waiting so long but the main reason was that we are paying for the entire thing ourselves and needed the time to save. I am almost at the 8 month mark and let me tell you the time is a little slow now but I know once the summer hits everything is going to happen really fast.

Congratulations! I have a 2 year engagement, and it is really not that big of a deal. I think there is too much emphasis placed on time. This way you have time to pace yourself, look for the best deals and so on. The only reason we waited was because I wanted to finish school. But with the extra time I found this site and found half of my vendors, and I would have never found my honeymoon, so you will appreciate the time.

we got engaged on oct 27th 2003 and are getting married may 29, 2005. we originally wanted to get married sept 2004. but we have 7 weddings (YES I SAID 7) that between the two of us we are in this year---- and then there are two more that we will just be going to....
that said we didnt want to fall into the another wedding three weeks after the one before and we also didnt want to steal the thunder away from people who had been planning for a long time..
that said im glad we are doing the longer engagement--- it gives me time to plan whatever i like and buy the time we come along in may 2005 --- our friends will be loooking forward to a wedding!!!

We got engaged Feb 16th 2002 and are getting married Sept 18th 2004. That is a 2 years and 7 month engagement.

We got engaged in Sept. 2002 and we are getting married in May of this year. We wanted a spring wedding and felt that spring of 2003 was too soon. We also wanted to buy a co-op before the wedding. The extra time helped us be able to afford our new home and save for the wedding.

Yes, we had a two year engagement,.it goes byfast!!! We really didnt book our hall until a year before the wedding, so basically we were engaged for a year before we even started making plans,

I said 1-2 years because it's JUST over 2 years. Got engaged in July of 03, and date is set for 9/05.
