I got an email from my friend who is in Boston who said he was so excited to come to a 'real Long Island wedding'. HAHAHA I think it is funny how we all have a rep!
It reminds me of when I was in college and would first meet people and they would say 'oh you're from LI, you must be a Biiitch cause LI are so spoiled' How do we get these reps? It always amazed me cause I think of LI as being so little but everyone still has pre-conceived notions about LIers!

Re: Long Island
You're right. When I travel, I get called a 'rich b*tch' from LI or NY because of TV and reality shows.
My favorite thing in college would be when people found out where I was from and they'd say 'My friend is from Long Island, do you know Mike?' Yeah - because there are 50 people on LI and I know them all.

HAHAHA - I got that one too. Um yeah, cause I know every person from Long Island. Sometimes I would even get asked about friends/relatives living in Westchester...argh!

Re: Long Island
I've got a lot of friends from central/western NY (went to school in western NY) and they are amazed by all of our 'Long Island' weddings...they always think the CH is the dinner..then we tell them, oh there's a sit down dinner after this, they are shocked!

They also asked me if they could take a subway to where I lived. I said yes.

When I would visit my cousins in FL, their friends would be afraid of me b/c I was from NY. I was really funny......one time I was riding bikes w/ them and someone was picking on us and my cousins said hey she's from NY and they left us alone.

Re: Long Island
Too funny!!!
I remember when I went to college (on Staten Island) everyone thought I was rich when I said I was from LI. As if we all live with the celebrities in the Hamptons!!!! I wish!!!
And when I told people who knew the area that I'm from Brentwood they asked if I wore a bullet-proof vest to school!!!

What's sad is my cousins just moved down to NC. Their kids are about 4, 6, 8 and one of the mothers at school won't let her kids play with my cousins cause they are from NY (and must be bad news) THEY ARE KIDS!

Ha-ha! I've told people that Gotti was laid out in the funeral home not too far from my house, which is true, and they get scared.

i never got the rich thing but i got the 'you must know so and so' all the time i thought it was hysterical!! and people seriously think LI is as small as nantucket!!
but i know college was culture shock for me to going to school in New England - especially when my friend from Where New Hamnpshire (i love the name of her town) was giving directions to her house and said 'turn at the gas station' i was so confused because i found it so hard to believe there was only one in the whole town! my friends were also shocked that i traveled more than a half hour to work or to visit friends in other towns! or that i had friends in other towns!

I went to college in Michigan and when people heard I was from NY, they'd say 'Oh yeah! Amy Fisher!' AND/OR 'Say 'Coffee Talk'' from the Saturday Night Live skit with Mike Myers.
