I recently purchased this BCBG because it was 70% off. I have several friends who are single and several who will get engaged within the next 1-2 years, so there will be plenty of occassions to wear it. BUT.... my question is when is it appropriate to wear a long versus short dress? I thought long dresses were meant for black tie weddings, although I can't see any of my friends having such formal weddings.
if it's a night wedding and the location calls for it then its fine

The only time I've seen long gowns is at a black tie wedding I went to over the summer (and it was in the evening as well). I'm just hoping this dress doesn't sit in my closet forever!

I would def wear it to an evening wedding! Its very pretty. You can also wear this dress on a cruise for the formal dinners.

also to add - the dress is like those maxi-style dresses. in the summer if it's an afternoon wedding at a fancy place i think u can get away with it. You can dress it up or down depending on ur hair, jewelry, shoes, etc.. that's why i love those!

I think it may depend on your social circle/family but I can tell you at most weddings I go to [18 in the last two years - yikes!], 75% of the women are in long dresses.

You could just hem it so it's tea or cocktail length. Then you could use the extra fabric as a shawl or make a bag out it.

I bought 2 long formal gowns in 2005 and have yet to wear either of them I've gone to a few weddings since then, but felt I'd be too dressy (and I would have been based on what everyone else wore to those weddings)

Interesting idea!! Does the length really dictate the fanciness of the dress that much? If so, I might hem it so it's up to my calf - what do you think of that length?

Every wedding I have been to lately has a good mix of both! So I think your dress is fine either way. Not to mention it is so pretty!

I thought about this issue before purchasing the dress, but the 70% sale sign really lured me in! Now I feel even though I got a good deal on it, the fact that it's long will definitely limit the opportunities for wearing it.
