A friend was invited to a destination wedding in France. The bride is a NY girl marrying into British high society. She requested no gifts, but when pressed she came up with a short list of items for her registry. This was one of them:
A goat to feed a family in one of the Eastern European countries. In that country, it is also a means of celebrating happy occasions. Cost- $28.00.
At first, we found humor in this, but thinking it over, what a generous gesture on the part of the bride and groom, don't you think?

I think that is really cool. It takes a certain kind of person to think of others on their big day!

I would love to help the less fortunate if I was independently wealthy, but we are going into serious hock for this wedding. I brought up the suggestion of doing this to my FH a while ago and he said in this case we are the less fortunate.

That's nice. FH grew up in Poland and remembers when his parents and some neighborhoods bought a big from someone. It was a party for weeks because there was so much meat.
Feeding those less fortunate is always a nice gesture
