Looking at venues
So I visited venues for the first time this past Sunday. We visited Crest Hollow Country Club, Woodbury Country Club and Fox Hollow Country Club. I felt so overwhelmed by the end of the day because I was in LOVE with Fox Hollow, but definitely not in love with the price, timing and dates available. This weekend we're going back to Crest Hollow since we didn't get to see the outdoor chapel or the bridal suite. We're also going to see: Westbury Manor, Verdi's of Westbury, Chateau Briand, Jericho terrace and the Inn at New Hyde Park. I'm hoping to make my decision soon after. I figure once we decide on a place we love that we can always negotiate price. What do you guys think? All 3 place we saw this past Sunday included food, cake and liquor, and table linens. I'm wondering if I can cut back on food and liquor if that would help reduce the per person cost. Is that a possibility or are most places sticklers for their packages and giving you all of that food and liquor?

I didn't even attempt to negotiate any of that with our venue because I loved it so much. But I know some of the places we saw said they could work something put for us by changing things up. It doesn't hurt to ask.

What a busy day! I know some venues were willing to negotiate such as throw something in for free or reduce price by cutting out a cocktail station.

I would check out Leonard's. They may seem pricey but they include their 20% in their price which makes them come out to actually be one of the best priced venues. They are AWESOME about negotiating the price based on menu.I would also suggest looking at The Riviera in Massapequa. You seem to only be looking further west in Nassau, so I'm not sure if it's too far for you but I thought they were beautiful and very reasonably priced. I also liked that they aren't on a main highway (a request originally made by FH when looking at venues).
All the places you're looking at are beautiful venues, so I am sure that whatever you go with will be a beautiful wedding!!

Also, I don't know how many guests you're inviting but from what I remember you have to guarantee like 250 to see certain rooms at Jericho Terrace. I have heard (but never seen) Verdis or the Inn at New Hyde Park but I hear that they are both smaller venues.

Thanks girls!! I'm looking to have 150 guests. We are inviting 244 guest but a lot of those people won't be able to come. Me and FH live in Brooklyn and don't have a car. This is the case for a lot of our family so we want to have something reasonably close to Brooklyn/Queens. There are so many beautiful places further out on the island but then I worry about transportation there, especially since we're thinking about getting a bus for our guest to take them to the wedding from Brooklyn.I haven't heard about Verdi's before today. My FH's supervisor recommended it and since they are near Chateau Briand and do walk ins for tours I figured why not lol.

I haven't heard anything bad about Verdis... just heard they are good for smaller weddings. I'd check them out anyway because you can't always go by what you've heard and venue shopping is fun (at least, I thought so!)
I know what you mean about the transportation thing. A lot of our family is in Brooklyn and OOT so originally we didn't want to go too far east either. Funny that our venue is kind of in the boons but I loved it too much to pass up lol.
There are so many nice venues in Nassau, I'm sure you'll find something!

If you feel like going the other way, over the bridge check out Island chateau in Staten island. It's literally 5 minutes over the bridge. Thats why I went to check it out. I'm in Brooklyn as well and a lot of my family in Brooklyn don't drive.

They don't advertise. They are all word of mouth. And they just dropped their prices for 2014.
