After the birth of your child that you didn't? Or perhaps that you wish you had brought with you?
Just like to learn from experience.

I wish I had brought my video camera into the OR. There was such a rush to get me there that it was forgotten. I would have loved to see it again.

I would have put a cute outfit on Damien for the hospital picture. He is just in the regular undershirt and hospital receiving blanket. We ended up buying a $60.00 package and I wish he had on a cute little outfit

If you are exclusively BFing, make sure they are not supplementing your baby with formula in the nursery. Even though I specified breast only, they still gave him formula. I guess I was kind of naive because the first morning after he was born (the baby stays in the nursery overnight) I wnet down to see him a little early and the nurse was patting him on the back. DUH! It only dawned on me weeks later that she must have given him a bottle and was burping him. Ask to check his/her feeding chart and dont be afraid to adamantly repeat yourself. It's still a subject that really p*sses me off because it never worked out with breast feeding him and I think that some of what happened in the hospital (there's more to the story than that but that's part of it) started us off badly and it was impossible to get him to BF.

ETA: I had Luke at 1:50am and I was ravenously hungry. I was really glad I had my 'Daddy pack' of snacks, which DH never ended up eating while I was in labor. I must have eaten 5 fruit & cereal bars in a row. So pack a couple small snacks just in case. I also brought my own pillow, which I was happy I did. Just remember to take it home.

Nail clippers!! They dont cut the baby's nails at the hospital, and Lyla's were so long but I was scared to do it, so I left socks on her the first week of her life! I wish I had brought them with me, so that maybe someone could have at least helped me.

The baby's nails are so soft and fragile right after birth that you are probably better off with just a really soft baby file, rather than cutting them. That's what we did with Paul.

Along the lines of taking everything the hospital gives you...take the blue absorbent bed covers they put under you! I took every last one that was in the side table drawer! I packed them into my diaper bag and used that as a clean (safe) surface to lay the baby on during diaper changes if I was in a public restroom or even on the carpet or bed at a friend's house (to protect from accidents).

I also wish that we would have asked the baby's pediatrician to explain more to us about the number of wet and poopy diapers that are normal for a very newborn baby. Jeff and I were very nervous b/c Paul did not have a poopy for almost 4 days after leaving the hospital - and he was BFing! We thought something was very wrong. (I know this might sound amusing, but we were scared) When we went to the doctor's office for his first week check-up, the doctor ended up telling us that it was totally normal, and he didn't have to have a poopy every single day.
