My family's favorite thing to do w/any vegetable is add tomato sauce! I know you've already solved your need for tonight's meal, but here's another idea you can try next time!

Remove just the stems of the beans and wash well.
In a medium to large saucepan (depends on how many beans you are cooking), add 2-3 tablespoons of EVOO and crushed garlic (according to taste). Place washed beans in pan and saute several minutes on medium heat, being careful not to burn garlic.
Add one large can of crushed tomatoes and 1/2 can of water. Salt and pepper to taste. Allow to simmer 2 hours, so that beans soften, but not mushy.

This recipe is really good when the beans are served the following day.

First: Jenny, Thanks! Came out very good!

Second: Claud- that sounds good too! I will definitely try it -its takes long though - so whenever I actually have the time to cook it I will!

Thanks again to both!

I usually just drizzle with some olive oil and mix with a little bit of breadcrumbs and parmesan cheese-FH loves it this way.

Re: Looking for different ways to make string beans...

ooh - i have a yummy way of makiong string beans

This is for about a pound of string beans - clean, wash and cut the stringbeans in half - in a pot dice a medium sized onion, then add a small amount of olive oil - about 2- 3 tablespoons - let the onion simmer until translucent - then add about 3-4 large spoonfuls of tomatoe puree or crushed tomato - let this cook for about 5 minutes - then add the stringbeans - if you like you can also add a few peeled potatoes cut into pieces - about half if they are small potatoes. After you add this, add about 3/4 to 1 cup of water, season with salt and pepper - cover and let cook at the high temp until it rapidly cooking for about 7-8 minutes - then lower and let cook until you see the string beands are ready. Enjoy!

I throw a handful of string beans on the George Forman grill and grill them for a couple of minutes. I will also saute them in a little olive oil with garlic or almonds. Sometimes I sprinkle Lemon Herb (I believe it's from McCormick in the spice aisle).

I buy the fresh string beans, wash and cut the ends of and put them into a baking pan. Spray the pan with cooking spray. Mix breadcrumbs, garlic and parmessan cheese and spread it over the string beans. Bake the string beans for about 20 minutes. I do this also with asparagus and eggplant.

I boil string beans with some cloves of garlic...drain them when done.

Add some balsamic vin., olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Put it in the frig to cool and enjoy as a salad later.

YUMMY!!

Re: Looking for different ways to make string beans...

My mom cooks the string beans until tender, then drains well.

Then she heats some smashed garlic in a little olive oil (don't let it brown). Add string beans and toss. Add some breadcrumbs and grated cheese and mix. Let the breadcrumbs brown slightly.

This is the only way we'd eat them as kids!
