Looking for roof information!

How much does a new roof cost? I mean a whole new roof, removing all the old stuff.
Are there different types of roofs?
What are some good roof companies?
WHat is the best type of shingles to use?
Any websites?
Thank you.

The cost all depends on the size of your roof, how many layers need to be removed, if anything is rotten and needs to be replaced, if you are going to need anything reflashed.

What do you mean different types of roofs?

My DH is a contractor so I have knowledge of this useless info

There is an estimator online. Its on my old computer I will see if I can find it for you.

Re: Looking for roof information!

I had mine done in December and got quotes from $4000 - $8000 for my house (again size of house can make a difference as well as materials). Just going over was more in the $2500-$4000 range. I know every contractor does different steps and have different approaches. I think there is a basic 4 step that all follow but some add 2-3 more steps for added protection.

What can add to the price is if you have wood rot when they pull off the roof. We were very afraid since we are near water that this would be the case and this is $$$. Also, we figured a mfg can tell us we have it and we would have no clue!! We made sure the contractor we used threw in a certain number of planks of wood for free - many do not want to do this because this is where they can make additional money. Also, if they don't throw it in - get the price of this in writing upfront.

We are having this done and our sidding down now. With a complete rippoff of the roof, and some wood had to be replaced. For the whole job with the siding and rebuilding our porch it was 10,000 and we had to pay $35 for each piece of plywood they needed to replace. We only needed 5 pieces replaced which we knew already. They guy is doing a good job, and he should be done sometime next week. If you want his info let me know.
