I've known for a while that I don't want to be walked down the aisle. I toyed with the idea of walking down by myself, but then I thought it might be a nice idea if I have FH meet me down the aisle halfway. We could greet each other in the middle of the aisle and then he can walk me the rest of the way.
I thought it would be nice and sort of symbolic of our relationship. Anyone ever seen anything like this done?
Another thing I'm wondering about is has anyone seen a nice introduction of the Bride and Groom for the reception with a smooth transition into getting everyone else on the dance floor right away? We don't want to do spotlighted father/daughter, mother/son dances where everyone else sits and watches. I mean, we'll dance with those people, but we don't want it to be where everyone watches. We'll probably ask our DJ to designate 'Slow dance' times where we can pair up with important people to dance with and I'll ask my Photog to be there to capture those moments.
Any advice/ideas?

Re: Looking to break some traditions...
That is SO cute I love that idea. I was actually planning on walking down the aisle by myself. I know a lot of girls whose fathers aren't there (in my case) have their mothers or another family member, but if my mom doesn't care then I would rather just walk by myself because I don't believe that I'm being 'given away'. I think it's nice if girls want to do that, but I really don't. I like the idea of him meeting you, I never thought of that! I'm doing away with a lot of traditions as well. I'm not wearing a veil either, I just felt funny with one and have a nice hair clip instead. FH didn't really want to do a mother/son dance, but his mom would want to I'm sure but I think he feels funny with everyone watching also! I figured I'll let him decide, but that's definitely something your DJ could do and this way other people are dancing as well.

I have seen the groom meet his bride halfway before. Also for the first dance I have seen the DJ ask the bridal party to join on the dance floor. So your in good shape.

There was an episode of Four Weddings where one of brides (who just so happened to get married at The Riviera) walked down the aisle halfway with her father and her groom walked down halfway and met her. It was very nice.
Regarding the dances, at my brother's wedding him and my sister in law danced the first verse solo and then the DJ invited all the other couples to come up and dance. I am doing this at my wedding also because I think it's going to be akward dancing and having everyone watch us LOL

I think that is so sweet and romantic for you hubbie to meet you halfway and walk you down. It shows what a strong relationship you have!

I think those are great ideas.
For the Mother/Son and Father/Daughter dances you can give the DJ a list of slow songs you want played during the night (that's what we did) and it worked out really well. I would have done what you want to do with these dances but MIL wanted to have some attention of her and her 'baby.' She helped pay for the wedding so I felt I could give her that. Just be sure to let the photographer know that you wont be doing individual dances and to be sure to get pictures of those slow songs.
I broke some traditions (no bouquet and garter toss) as well and no one missed them.

I love the idea of you walking down half way and then your FH meeting you in the middle and you two walking together to the altar!
I am having the traditional solo dances for my wedding but I am thinking of elminating the bouquet and garder toss as most of our friends and family are married.

I also love the idea of a father walking the bride halfway and the groom walking her the rest of the way - one big question - where does the father go? He can't follow behind, does he walk back up the aisle and around the other side? I can't figure out if it'll work for the father.

I'm begging my fiance to eliminate the bouquet and garter toss!! He's been very stubborn about it, but I have a feeling I will win! :)

LOVE LOVE the idea!! actually during the final episode of smallville (i know a little nerdy lol) when Lois enters the church alone, she looks around for Clark whos not at the altar she panics since she thinks he is a no show and at that exact moment he comes from behind and grabs her hand and walks down with her...you tube the scene! I friking cried! I saw myself in the same position, i thought of that being me haha...So I think I will do the half-way meeting!

Re: Looking to break some traditions...
the bride & groom walking together is a celtic tradition - so even if you or he isn't irish, you can just let anyone who comments about your idea that technically it *is* a tradition....somewhere!

Re: Looking to break some traditions...
I walked down the aisle by myself and I LOVED it - I've never felt so completely myself and in charge of my own destiny as I did walking toward my DH in that moment. (I didn't like the idea of being 'given away' either and I'm so glad I went with my instincts!)
I've seen couples walking in together or meeting halfway too, and they're all great options.
Do whatever feels right to you - there is no right or wrong way to do it!
