I go to the Rock in Astoria. It's right off the N/W Ditmars Blvd stop. Parking would be a pita though.

No, you don't really have to wait because you sign up. So you get there like ten minutes before the hour (or half hour) and sign up, put your junk in a locker and then you're ready. The machines are older than you and I combined (not the treadmills and stuff - the weight machines) but it's super cheap. I think I pay $15 a month. You would think parking is terrible but it's not really bad.
Plus the classes are really great! Join!!!! Then I'll actually start going again!

I have a gym membership with NYS Club in Rego Park, it's pretty good there. They're open from 5:30am-11:00pm M-F(10PM), Sat-Sun 5:30am-9pm. And they offer a variety of classes on daily weekdays and Sats. If you want work with trainers, you pay extra and get discounted pkgs. There are a lot of different machines and weights. I think you can sign up for a week trial in person w/ no commitment.

America Physique on Jericho TPKE in Bellerose. Also a new gym in opening on 188th and Union in Jamaica Estates/Fresh Meadows area. I think the name is Push or Plush not sure.

I go to LA Fitness..never a wait for machines..they have tons. I've never liked gyms before i joined here..it's so spacious so no one bothers you
As far as classes go...Spin is my favorite. I go every Sat and Sun morning and trying to go one weekday eve.
Great thing about LA is no contracts.
There is also a NYSC in Whitestone I went once..I felt like I was working out in someone's basement

i go to NYSC bc i can go to different locations. my FH raves about LA fitness.

i tried it out years ago when i was looking for a gym in that area. definitely not huge and not as cheap as planet fitness but the location might work for you........

Bell Plaza is one of the cheaper ones around, open 24/7, I like it.
