The Church would have a ****-fit if another state passed a gay marriage bill. As it is, the Bible still doesn't recognize unions between same sex couples. Plus, NJ is full of conservative Republicans. They won't vote for gay marriage, get real.

I though we lived in the US. Ever heard of seperation of church and state. I think its absolute bulshit that this is 2010 and the government is dictating who has the right to marry.

as for our generation.....i'm not holding my breath. while we may be progressing here, i feel like around the country young people are just getting more and more socially conservative.

Do you really think so? Maybe my vision is just colored because I've grown up and stayed in the NY area... but I feel like we as a generation are more open minded, even though some of us have other conservative values, we recgonize as a generation that gay marriage is equal marriage because it has become so much more open and socially acceptable to live openly as a homosexual.

I'm having faith and crossing my fingers... I don't think it's gonna be next year, but I think our kids will grow up finding it strange that at one time gay people couldn't marry.

Agreed. Media has been incredibly welcoming of gay characters and celebrities, and every year it gets a little bit more prevalent and recognized.

I guess when middle America gets hooked on the Rosie O'Donnell show and Ellen, homosexuality doesn't seem so strange. And that's a great thing!

It's good to have hope. Without hope, you can't dream.

This makes me so sad. My aunts have been together for 28 years which is longer than my parents who are now divorced!!! Unreal!

being a republican has nothing to do with it.
Most of Obamas voters were church going people and were interviewed and said no way...

I am Republican and 100% for gay marriage. My BFF is gay and I feel bad her and her partner don;t have the same rights. They have no problem taking their taxes though.

ITA with this!
I am also Republican and am for gay marriage.

ITA!!!! I do not think the Church should have ANYTHING to do with laws or government issues.

Unfortunately, though, I think this is WHY it's not happening right now/might not happen any time soon. A lot of people can't/won't separate their religious beliefs from their political. It's the same issue with abortion--a lot of people are morally opposed to it/religiously opposed to it, so they think it should be illegal, but they don't always know about/think about the legal implications.

I agree. I obviously understand that politics are involved, but I don't necessarily think that 'conservative' and 'anti-gay marriage' must always go together.
