losing weight/looking pregnant

losing weight/looking pregnant

I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes which explains why I am carrying around an extra 40 pounds...

I hate the way I look -- a lot of the weight is in my stomach and hips and I have this idea that I will look like a pregnant bride in my wedding pics. Being pregnant is a beautiful thing -- looking like you're pregnant when you're not is really s u c k s.

My question -- what can I do? I know that spot reducing doesn't work. Exercise makes me feel better but i don't see a big improvement in the tummy area.

Please help!!!!!!

a lot of it is in what you eat... keep away from white foods such as sugar, white bread, sodium, and flour... when you eat a lot of sugar it goes right to your Pooch area, and thats what makes it bloated, its very easy to get rid of once you stop eating those items also when you walk try and twist your hips and waist a little more.. but nothing is better than exercise

I had gone to a nutritionist awhile back, and while I'm not sure how accurate this is, she told me that when you carry around in your pooch, its too much sugar and carbs usually. (I carry it in the same place!)

I've been working out and cutting back on carbs a bit, and I am beginning to notice a difference. Good luck, you'll figure it out and will look beautiful on your big day regardless!

my mom is borderline diabetic and she's counting calories.. so i went on the same 'diet' with her.. you don't have to cut out everything.. it's all about portion control and sticking to it.. we used a small measuring cut to control portions of rice, pasta, veg.gave up sugar in stuff cold turkey... and our bodies shrunk.. hth..

I think cutting carbs and sugar is sound advice. I'm so confused -- even the diabetes sites have conflicting information.

You should definitely be cutting down the sugar and the 'bad' carbs. You should be getting your carbs from fruits and vegetables and whole wheat products. But since you are a diabetic, I would suggest you discuss your diet with your doc and maybe even look into a diabetic educator or nutitionist. Good Luck.

white carbs are rice, regular bread, potatoes, etc.... use whole wheat or multigrain flour, cereal, bread etc... Brown rice is also good. Thank god everyone makes non white versions of everything. As far as pasta goes the Barilla Plus is amazing! Can't even tell the difference!

Re: losing weight/looking pregnant

I'm actually a thin girl, BUT since my teenage years I've always had this sort of little roll of fat all the way around where a more fit person would have their bottom two abs if they had a 6 pack. Nothing I ever did made it go away.

Recently, I gave up soda. In fact, I haven't had soda since December 20th. I also started doing pilates, but that was a little later after I realized it was going away. Magically, this roll of fat that has been with me for years and through years of cardio has just slowly disappeared. It probably started going away in about 2 or 3 weeks.

Makes me feel like holding fat in that area is due, at least in part, to either sugar or aspartame or both. Maybe try kicking soda and drinking more water for that weight in the stomach.

For the thighs and butt, I recently started doing Windsor pilates and WOW. I did it and at the end of the work out I was pissed b/c it was only 20 minutes or so long and I thought 'this will never do anything.' The next morning I woke up and I was SORE SORE SORE. I've been doing it every other day and it's defintely working. You can probably buy those DVDs on ebay!

Also, my aunt, who suffers from hypothyroid disorder, also started doing pilates at a studio class (like at a gym or something), and for the first time in her life she has been able to lose weight and inches. She's down 2 dress sizes in 6 weeks!

Lots of cardio combined with weights works great for me. Eat in moderation. Cardio will make the pounds just melt off. Oh, and I stopped drinking beer when I went out. That helps alot too.

Oh yes I agree with this too! All my girlfriends at school started WW together and each threw in $10 or $20 and whoever lost the most at the end of a certain time frame was the 'biggest loser' and won all the money!!! Everyone lost at least 15 lbs, and they were such a great support system for each other!

what if you watch your calorie intake, thats what i have been doing and the first thing i noticed was that my belly went down, if you go to calorieking.com there is a link on it that lets you put it your hight and weight and tell you how many calories you need to intake to stay at that weight so if you put in the weight you want to be it will tall you how many calories you should be eating to be that weight.

Since you were recently diagnosed with diabetes you'll be changing your diet completely. You'll see a difference within the first few weeks because you can't eat as many carbs period. Focus on eating more veggies and lean protein which will be good for you and your diabetes.

I was asked if I was pregnant one year ago. I went on a diet and lost 30 lbs from February to Septemeber and my wedding dress which I bought in December is a size 2! I am keeping it off (no longer counting even just eating healthier) and I feel truly GREAT. I ran my first 5K recently too! Now I just need to tone up.

I calorie counted using a website called caloriecount.about.com, it's amazing.
