Lost and Confused

Lost and Confused

I posted about this a little while ago, but I'm just... lost and confused, really lost and confused...

The Knot's wedding to-do list, that I've been using a lot, says I should have booked a florist by now.

I am really worried about my ability to find a florist who isn't awful and who will make me the bouquet I want when its the only wedding flowers I need. I wanted a dark purple bouquet and those flowers are a little harder to come by than other flowers (even lavender is easier) and I don't want to carry a single flower or tie them myself... and I live in Manhattan and can't spend a whole day wandering Long Island looking for a florist in a car I don't have... and even if I could, I would be at a loss for what I need to do first...

I'm just feeling, just completely awful and hopeless about it. Is it normal for wedding planning to make you this melodramatic?

If anyone knows a nice friendly florist that wouldn't sneer at me for asking for only a nice bouquet, feel free to let me know.

I'm going to go walk around my apartment and mope now. Bleh.

Re: Lost and Confused

you dont need to follow those lists exactly. I did things in different order and so did most. You can still find a great florist, also remember alot of big florists do more than 1 event a day.

I definitely DO NOT suggest you drive around LI looking for a florist. GEt recommendations of florists who do weddings and make appointments with them.

Wait you only need a bouquet? if so then if you live in the city just go to the wholesale flower district and they can do that for you, they do flowers for weddings too. Ive seen brides getting their bok's there and they have wedding books too.

call john at flower michele! i'm sure you can do most of your corresponding with him via email and he's soooo nice, i can't imagine that he would sneer at you for only wanting one bo-k. it will all work out!

and yes, wedding planning does make everybody melodramatic. when i think back now about the stuff i got SO SO upset over, i just laugh. i'm usually pretty laid back and wedding planning made me a OCD freak

and don't worry about those lists, use them as guide but don't think you have to stick to them exactly!

if you need any help, feel free to FM!

I am using Lovin Oven Florist in Sayville and my RH is in Glen Cove. They are professional, great to work with and I thought reasonable. I promise when you walk in there you will not be disappointed!

If there is one florist I would recommend it would be Flowers by Brian! He has a studio in Howard beach, Manhattan and Mineola. They are the house florist at my RH and we saw their work at a showcase and it was amazing. Don't worry about the Knot list...it's helpful but a little crazy!

First of all you have plenty of time. Secondly, I have the same EXACT color scheme as you do and wanted the same things. I went to a few florists who did not help me at all. Then i went to Signature Florist in Bellmore and she gave me a book of dozens and dozens of different purple flowers and put together the most beautiful ideas for me. I highly recommend them!!! Everywhere else i went was all about using nothing but roses and i wanted something different like you!!

Re: Lost and Confused

For my bouquets, I used a coworker's wife that does it from her home. She orders the flowers that we pick out and has them shipped to her the week of. She did an amazing job with our bouquets, cost about $600 for me, MOH, and 3 BMs and groom, best man, 2 GM, 4 parents, my brother and also the FG and jr bm. She also threw in roses for the cake. Man, can I tell you the compliments I got on them. One friend took one home and was raving how long it lasted. You pick from a book. She is in Stony brook. She would bring the flowers to you the day of. Maybe you can meet somewhere inbetween to see the books, not sure if she would do that. I would suggest having pictures or an idea of the flowers you would want, that will make it easier. You can see if your hall has recommendations too.

Yeah, I just got an email from John that said, short and sweet, no way he can do such a small order. So I guess that's that. People aren't quite as sweet when the order is small, maybe? I don't know...

I don't know what kind of a budget you are on, but you can try Big Apple Florist. they are located on East 45th between 3rd and 2nd. They are really nice and can prob. do just about any flower. I would have used them but the delivery charge to LI put me way over budget. Good Luck!

I am also lost and confused but I know it will all work out.

If you can afford a wedding planner. He/she can do the running around for you and she can bring different options to the table of what you are looking for.
